HEATHERS: THE MUSICAL Opens February 9th in Downtown Glendale Image

The Brelby Theatre Company located in Historic Downtown Glendale, is bringing this dark musical comedy to life this February.

Based on the 1989 cult classic film of the same name, Westerberg High is ruled by a shoulder-padded, scrunchie-wearing junta: Heather, Heather, and Heather, the hottest and cruelest girls in all of Ohio. But misfit Veronica Sawyer rejects their evil regime for a new boyfriend, the dark and sexy stranger J.D., who plans to put the Heathers in their place - six feet under.

"The musical adaptation of Heathers takes the best pieces of the movie, and sets them to infectious songs that will be stuck in your head for weeks," says Artistic Director, Shelby Maticic. "I am a huge fan of the film, and this show definitely does it justice."

The dark themes in the show have Brelby recommending that parents think twice before bringing their children to a performance. With topics ranging from teen suicide to sexual assault, the production contains strong language and onstage violence. According to Maticic, this should come as no surprise to fans of the film. "Our cast has been handling these timely subjects with a lot of care. So many young adults have been touched by these weighty issues, and our team wants to make sure that they are ultimately telling a story that is relatable and honest," she explains. "We're scheduling talkbacks after some of our performances. This show has the ability to open up a lot of important conversations about bullying, suicide prevention, and more."

Heathers: The Musical features the Brelby stage debut of Madison Cichon (Veronica Sawyer), Nathan Sheppard (Jason "JD" Dean), Amanda Glenn (Heather McNamara), Todd Horne (Kurt Kelley), Devan Orr (Ms. Flemming/Veronica's Mom), Marcus Russell (Hipster Dork), Falin Ossipinsky (New Wave Girl), and Savoy Graca (Stoner Chick). The production features performances by several returning Brelby artists and including Amelia Huot (Heather Chandler), Thea Eigo (Heather Duke), Sophia Chavez (Martha Dunstock), Jack Taylor (Ram Sweeney), Karson Cook (Kurt's Dad/Veronica's Dad/Principal Gowen), Kevin Fenderson (Ram's Dad/Big Bud Dean/Coach Ripper), Devon Mahon (Beleagured Geek), Jonathan Gradilla (Preppy Stud), and Alexandra Utpadel (Young Republicanette). Heathers: The Musical is presented by special arrangement with SAMUEL FRENCH, INC.
