Ryan Touhey, a graduate of The University of the Arts, will be The Media Theatre's new Voice Class instructor and accompanist. He will also be the music director for its Glee Experience.

The popular Voice Class returns for ages 8 and up on Tuesdays from 4:30-6pm. Touhey will provide Individual instruction within a group setting as the students learn, developing skills while rehearsing on their own and by listening to others. The Voice Class focuses on finding the truth within the song for each student, communicating lyrics, phrasing and breathing techniques, and strengthening diction. He will guide the students through the process and assist in choosing proper material for their age and vocal range, as well as their experience level. The class culminates in a recital for family and friends of the students the final Tuesday of the eight week session.

As the music director for The Media Theatre's Winter Glee Experience, a course in which choral music and choreographed movement allow each participant to be a part of a group, he will guide the youth involved through the process of 'blending' while singing harmonies. The Glee Experience performs a mix of contemporary pop music as well as iconic theatre pieces from shows such as "The Wizard of Oz". The ten week Experience is a fun, upbeat way to assist with a focus on performance and working as a 'team'. Best for ages 10 and up, the ten week rehearsal process meets on Tuesdays beginning January 10 from 6-8pm. There will be a performance on March 27 at The Media Theatre.

Touhey received a Barrymore nomination for his work on "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" produced at Theatre Horizon this past spring. He has also music directed "Rent" and "Tick Tick….Boom" with 11th Hour Theatre Company, and was the Assistant Music Director with People's Light and Theatre's recent panto "Three Musketeers". At Temple University as the Teaching Artist he assisted students with Audition Technique, Musical Theatre Voice and Acting, Music Theatre Cabaret, and Musical Theatre Scene Study. He worked with Peter Reynolds at Temple on "Urinetown" and with Nick Anselmo on "A Chorus Line". "I refer to myself as a Music Director, a composer and arranger, as well as a vocal coach," he said. "I look forward to bringing my knowledge to The Media Theatre's youth programs."

The Media Theatre is accepting registrations for both its Voice Class and Glee Experience. For more information, call 610-891-0100 or visit mediatheatre.org.
