Newsies, the new American musical, opens tonight, March 29 at the Nederlander Theatre, and has extended its limited Broadway engagement through August 19, 2012. Tickets for the extension dates (June 11th through August 19th) will go on sale Tuesday, March 20th at 10am. Newsies, the new American musical, began performances last week, March 15, at Broadway's Nederlander Theatre (208 W 41st St) for a limited run. Kicking off their limited run, the Broadway company of Newsies made their national television debut this morning when they perform 'Seize The Day' and 'Santa Fe' on ABC's 'Good Morning America.' BROADWAY ROX, a new concert event, recently played Queens Theatre (14 United Nations Avenue South in Flushing Meadows Corona Park). Produced by Nederlander Worldwide Entertainment, BROADWAY ROX celebrated the rock and pop hits of Broadway including songs from Wicked, Jersey Boys, Rent, The Who's Tommy, Mamma Mia, Spring Awakening, Hair, Rock of Ages, Jesus Christ Superstar and many more. The musical evening featured a 5 piece band with music supervision, orchestrations and arrangements by Jason Howland (composer of Little Women) and is directed by Rob Evan and Rich Affannato. Today in 2009, Guys and Dolls opened at the Nederlander Theatre, where it ran for 121 performances. Guys and Dolls is a musical with music and lyrics by Frank Loesser and book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows. It is based on 'The Idyll of Miss Sarah Brown' and 'Blood Pressure', two short stories by Damon Runyon, and also borrows characters and plot elements from other Runyon stories, most notably 'Pick the Winner'. Premiering on Broadway in 1950, the original production ran for 1200 performances and won the Tony Award for Best Musical. The musical has had several Broadway revivals as well as West End productions.

With honors ranging from the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame to the Tony Awards, Broadway's best performers gathered last night, February 27, to raise awareness of the rare disease, pulmonary fibrosis, and honor the memory of Associated Press theater critic, Michael Kuchwara (today would have been Kuchwara's 65th Birthday). Hosted by award-winning actress and devoted Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation (PFF) advocate Julie Halston, Broadway Belts for PFF! returned to Birdland in New York City for a second successful year. The event raised almost $50,000 to benefit the Foundation.
