Artistic Directors Matthew Aucoin and Zack Winokur announce the launch of the American Modern Opera Company (AMOC). AMOC, an opera company on a new model, is the artistic home for some of the most innovative young singers, instrumentalists, and dancers active today. At once a traveling theater troupe, new-music ensemble, and artists' collective, AMOC will serve as the incubator and executor of its core members' most ambitious, boundary-pushing projects. AMOC's members share a belief that the creation of meaningful interdisciplinary work requires deep, consistent artistic relationships and close, long-term collaboration. This company, whose developing body of work ranges from intimate duets to evening-length stage works, aims to expand the definition and the reach of opera as we know it.

Juilliard Historical Performance, the school's graduate-level, full-tuition scholarship program for early music, enters its ninth performance season with a full schedule of concerts, tours, residencies, and master classes anchored by performances from its primary period-instrument ensemble, Juilliard415, and a roster of distinguished guests artists. Grand opera--lavish in scale, setting and voices--certainly has its place, but, oh, the joys of hearing Cavalli and Faustini's bawdy, early baroque charmer LA CALISTO in a theatre with fewer than 100 seats! The Juilliard Opera production not only proved a great showcase for the singers, dancers and instrumentalists involved but for the opera itself, which is still infrequently heard and should be better known.

Festival d'Aix-en-Provence 2015, under the leadership of General Manager Bernard Foccroulle, will present world premiere productions of operas by Handel and Mozart; the return of director Robert Carsen's acclaimed 1991 Festival production of Benjamin Britten's A Midsummer Night's Dream; and the French premiere of Jonathan Dove's children's opera, The Monster in the Maze, led by Sir Simon Rattle with the London Symphony Orchestra. Major vocal presentations in 2015 will also include a new production of Serbian composer Ana Sokolovi?'s uncommonly original one-act a cappella opera Svadba (Marriage), and a double bill of Persephone-Stravinsky's hybrid musical work for speaker, singers, dancers, and orchestra-with Tchaikovsky's last opera, Iolanta.

One step begins a journey, especially in the 2013-3014 season at the Skylight Music Theatre towards that has amazed audiences with an exciting collection of productions towards their theme of revolution. Artistic Director and Music Director Viswa Subbaraman presented another cultural and personal revolution of two great artists by staging the work of composer Philip Glass and poet Allen Ginsberg in the compelling production Hydrogen Jukebox.
