Student Plays Given Star Treatment in Philadelphia Young Playwrights' 2010 Professional Productions

The work of Philadelphia area student playwrights will be brought to life on stage during Philadelphia Young Playwrights' 2010 Professional Productions, presented by PNC Arts Alive, from March 2 - 5, 2010.

Lansbury, Esparza, LuPone et al. Celebrate Sondheim at New York City Center Benefit, 4/26

New York City Center will celebrate Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winner Stephen Sondheim on the occasion of his 80th birthday on Monday, April 26 with a gala celebration featuring stars who have shone in Sondheim musicals including Michael Cerveris, Barbara Cook, Raúl Esparza, Victor Garber, Joanna Gleason, Angela Lansbury, Patti LuPone, Donna Murphy and Bernadette Peters. Directed by Tony Award-winner John Doyle, the evening will highlight shows for which Mr. Sondheim has written both music and lyrics, and will feature a full orchestra conducted by Encores! Music Director Rob Berman. The Benefit will help fund New York City Center's artistic and education programs. In addition, a portion of the evening's proceeds will go to Young Playwrights Inc, a charity of great importance to Mr. Sondheim.

Philadelphia Young Playwrights & InterAct Theatre Company Present 2010 Young Voices High School Monologue Festival

Sondheim Featured in Downstage Center Interview Now Available

Composer-lyricist Stephen Sondheim, who penned the score and lyrics for several critically acclaimed Broadway musicals including SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE and A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC, currently running at the Walter Kerr Theatre, is the focus of a new interview on the theatre related podcast Downstage Center. Producers Angelo Fraboni and Daryl Roth have announced that the New York premiere of Vigil, written by Morris Panych and directed by Stephen DiMenna, will begin performances Sunday, September 20, at 3pm at the DR2 Theatre, 103 East 15 Street, east of Union Square. The opening is scheduled for Tuesday, September 29 at 7pm.

NY Philharmonic's Star Studded SONDHEIM: THE BIRTHDAY CONCERT to Feature LuPone, Peters, Cerveris, Patinkin, McDonald, and More, 3/15 & 3/16

The New York Philharmonic will present SONDHEIM: The Birthday Concert on March 15 and Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at 7:30 p.m. This celebration of the 80th birthday of the great Broadway and film composer/lyricist will include his most enduring orchestral music and songs - performed, in some cases, by the stars of the original Broadway cast productions - in addition to rarely-heard material. Joining the celebration will be (in alphabetical order) Michael Cerveris, Victoria Clark, Jason Danieley, Nathan Gunn, George Hearn, Patti LuPone, Marin Mazzie, Audra McDonald, Donna Murphy, Mandy Patinkin, Bernadette Peters, and others to be announced, including surprise guests. Paul Gemignani, Mr. Sondheim's longtime collaborator, will conduct the New York Philharmonic; Lonny Price is the director; and Mr. Price and Matt Cowart are the producers.

13P Premieres AMERICAN TREASURE at The Paradise Factory in November

Julia Jarcho's new play, AMERICAN TREASURE, will receive its premiere performance by the theatre group 13P beginning on November 21st and running through December 12th at The Paradise Factory. Jarcho will direct the play's initial run and the cast will feature Aaron Landsman and Jenny Seastone Stern.

The show, produced by Lucky Penny Productions, in Association with The 7th Sign Theatre Productions, will open on Saturday, July 18th & run for six performances at the MainStage Theatre, 312 West 36th Street. This Premiere Production will be directed by Daniel Winerman. Lighting Design is by Jana Mattioli.
