Ravinia Music Director James Conlon leads a program with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and piano virtuoso Jean Yves Thibaudet at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 7, in all-French repertoire including Debussy's Two Nocturnes and La mer; and Ravel's Piano Concerto in G Major and Piano Concerto in D Major for the Left Hand. Thibaudet, who has appeared as a soloist with the world's greatest orchestras, was recently inducted into the Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame. The concert also features a ticket and dining package for a special price of $75.

An diesem Wochenende wurde der Bebelplatz zum großten „Opern- und Konzerthaus" Berlins. Rund 60.000 Berliner und Gaste aus aller Welt erlebten unter dem Motto „Staatsoper fur alle" ein großartiges Musikfest - so viele wie noch nie zuvor. Erstmals seit dem Umzug der Staatsoper ins Schiller Theater fand die Reihe zum 5-jahrigen Jubilaum wieder im „klassischen" Format statt - am Samstagabend mit der Übertragung der Oper „Don Giovanni" und Sonntagmittag mit einem Open-Air-Konzert von Daniel Barenboim und der Staatskapelle Berlin. Dank BMW Berlin hiess es fur das Publikum wieder an beiden Tagen: Eintritt frei!

Music Director Alan Gilbert and the New York Philharmonic, America's oldest orchestra, came to Walt Disney Concert Hall in the final event of the LA Phil's 2011/12 Visiting Orchestras series, this Wednesday, May 9. Virtuoso pianist Yefim Bronfman joined the program, performing the West Coast premiere of Piano Concerto No. 2, by New York Philharmonic Composer-in-Residence Magnus Lindberg. Also on the program were Dvorak's Carnival Overture and Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 4. Though Gilbert had previously appeared at Walt Disney Concert Hall (WDCH), most recently during the 2006/07 season, the performance was the New York Philharmonic's WDCH debut. Sir Simon Rattle returns to Los Angeles for his first concerts leading the Los Angeles Philharmonic at Walt Disney Concert Hall, today, Friday and Saturday, May 3, 4 and 5, at 8 pm, and Sunday, May 6, at 2 pm. Acclaimed mezzo-soprano Magdalena Kožena sings Mahler's settings of Friedrich Ruckert's Romantic poetry. Also on the program are Ligeti's Atmospheres, Wagner's Prelude to Act 1 of Lohengrin, and Bruckner's Symphony No. 9.

Ravinia Festival President and CEO Welz Kauffman announced the festival's 2012 season, which offers more than 100 separate events exemplifying most musical genres, including the 77th residency of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. The summer boasts a variety of music's legends from Philip Glass to James Taylor, along with 43 debuts, including Glee and Wicked star Idina Menzel, reggae master Jimmy Cliff, classic rocker Santana, Grammy-and-Oscar sensation Esperanza Spalding, and Musical America's "conductor of the year" Jaap van Zweden. Ravinia Music Director James Conlon celebrates the 35th anniversary of his own festival debut as his contract is extended through 2014.
