Los Angeles Philharmonic Music & Artistic Director Gustavo Dudamel and David C. Bohnett Chief Executive Officer Chair Chad Smith today announced the 2020/21 Walt Disney Concert Hall season featuring three trailblazing new projects: Pan-American Music Initiative and America: The Stories We Tell led by Gustavo Dudamel and Seoul Festival curated by Unsuk Chin; the premieres of 27 LA Phil commissions; the revival of LA Phil productions including the landmark Tristan Project collaboration of Esa-Pekka Salonen, Peter Sellars and Bill Viola; and performances by world-renowned guest artists including Yuja Wang, Hélène Grimaud, Lang Lang, Itzhak Perlman, Yefim Bronfman, Leila Josefowicz, Katia and Marielle Labèque and Barbara Hannigan.
TSO Announces Gustavo Gimeno's First Season

Incoming Music Director Gustavo Gimeno has set the tone for his first five years with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra (TSO) by launching a 2020/21 season that personifies his expansive artistic vision, intellectual curiosity and sense of adventure. Gustavo is driven by a passion for exploring how well-known works in the classical repertoire contrast and illuminate repertoire across various genres and styles. His season offers works of orchestral adventure that will appeal to Toronto audiences known to embrace a broad range of musical and artistic experiences. The TSO is entering its 99th season, and Gustavo Gimeno is the first new Music Director in 15 years.

The Boston Symphony Orchestra's four-city tour to East Asia (Seoul, Taipei, Shanghai, and Hong Kong) with Andris Nelsons, February 6-16, has been canceled due to increasing concerns over widely documented official news and government agency reports assessing the spread of the new coronavirus. These concerns, along with discussions with the Shanghai Oriental Art Center-whose leadership informed the BSO about the official cancellations of their upcoming performances-followed by consultations with the tour's presenters in Seoul, Taipei, and Hong Kong, combined to play an influential role in the cancellation of the BSO's East Asia tour.

The Gilmore International Keyboard Festival, which is presented biennially in Kalamazoo, is the largest gathering of keyboard artists in North America, this year including nearly 40 pianists in more than 100 concerts and events from Wednesday, April 22 to Sunday, May 10. The Montclair Orchestra presents its mid-winter concert on January 31st at 8:00 p.m., an exploration of the baroque style of 'concerto grosso', in which a small group of soloists plays with a larger ensemble. The exploration starts from the traditional baroque-classical music of J. S. Bach, but then jumps forward two centuries to rediscover the form as presented by Stravinsky and Schnittke in the 20th century.

Led by Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin, the concert also includes Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4 featuring Yefim Bronfman and Rachmaninoff's Symphony No. 3, which was premiered at the Academy of Music in 1936.

On Friday, October 18, 2019, the award-winning Tesla Quartet (Ross Snyder & Michelle Lie, violins; Edwin Kaplan, viola; Serafim Smigelskiy, cello) releases its second album, Joy & Desolation, on Orchid Classics. The record features performances of Mozart's Clarinet Quintet in A Major, K581; Gerald Finzi's Five Bagatelles arranged by Christian Alexander; John Corigliano's Soliloquy (1995); and Carolina Heredia's Ius in Bello (2014) with acclaimed clarinetist Alexander Fiterstein. The program on Joy & Desolation is all about contrasts: the duality of light and darkness, joy and despair, isolation and inclusion. Recorded at idyllic Wyastone, a retired concert hall nestled along the River Wye in England, the Tesla Quartet and Alexander Fiterstein used this recording as an opportunity to dive deeper into their art and to explore how they make music together.

Tovey will conduct 12 classical concerts, the Orchestra & Music School's Season 75 Gala, which features violinist Pinchas Zukerman and cellist Amanda Forsyth, Handel's Messiah, and eight Link Up education concerts at The VETS.
