14th Annual FringeNYC Runs August 13-29

The New York International Fringe Festival (FringeNYC), the largest multi-arts festival in North America, will present the 14th Annual Festival from August 13th - 29th, 2010. FringeNYC shows run 2pm - midnight weekdays and noon - midnight on weekends. Tickets are $15 in advance beginning July 23 at www.FringeNYC.org or 866-468-7619; $18 at the door, subject to availability.

Northlight Theatre Presents LOW DOWN DIRTY BLUES 5/27-7/3, Opens 6/5

Artistic Director BJ Jones and Executive Director Timothy J. Evans announce the World Premiere of Low Down Dirty Blues, by Randal Myler and Dan Wheetman, the creators of It Ain't Nothin' But the Blues and Fire on the Mountain. The production will feature Tony Award nominee Felicia P. Fields (The Color Purple) in her first role in Chicago since The Color Purple and two-time Jeff Award-winner Mississippi Charles Bevel. The production will be directed by Randal Myler with musical direction by Dan Wheetman. Low Down Dirty Blues runs May 27 - July 3, 2010 at Northlight Theatre, 9501 Skokie Blvd in Skokie. The press opening is Saturday, June 5, 2010.

NATIONAL JAZZ MUSEUM Announces June Line-Up

The National Jazz Museum's June line-up includes discussions with musical artists Paquito D'Rivera and Craig Harris for Harlem Speaks; a talk with a living literary legend, Peter Straub, at Jazz for Curious Readers; and our adult education series, Jazz for Curious Listeners, features instrumentalists Jeremy Pelt, Nicholas Payton and Orrin Evans taking the reins of discourse on jazz in the 21st century. Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater Leaps To Miami's Arsht Center

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, recognized by U.S. Congress as a vital American 'Cultural Ambassador to the World,' will inspire, enlighten and entertain from May 20-23 at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County in the finale of a 20-city U.S. Tour honoring 2009 TIME 100 Honoree Judith Jamison on her 20th year as artistic director.

National Jazz Museum Host Free Events May 18 & 20

The National Jazz Museum in Harlem will host two free events May 18 and 20 at the Visitors Center (104 East 126th Street, Stuite 2C). Special Guest New Orleans poet/performer Chuck Perkins will participate on Tuesday, May 18 for Jazz for Curious Listeners Tuning in to Treme: Hymns, Dirges and Misdemeanors starting at 7pm. On Thursday, May 20 NJMH welcomes Dave Samuels, Vibraphonist, educatour and author will participate at 6:30pm. On Friday, May 21 at the Dwyer Cultural Center 'Take the A Train: A Big Band Swing Dance' featuring NJMH All Star Big Band directed by Loren Schoenberg. Tickets are $20. Saxophone Legend Sonny Rollins Returns to The Paramount, 5/10

Seattle Theatre Group (STG) presents improvisational saxophone legend Sonny Rollins at The Paramount Theatre. A rare treat, this engagement will be Rollins' first tour to Seattle in almost 15 years and his first performance at The Paramount Theatre. Always a restless creative spirit, a constantly self-renewing citizen of the jazz world and one of the music's leading lights, Rollins is jazz's most exacting, exhilarating and inspiring practitioners.

Mary Lou Williams To Be Commemorated On 100th Birthday With A NYC Concert 5/8

The newly restored Church of St. Francis Xavier and the Mary Lou Williams Foundation will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of the First Lady of Jazz with a concert to benefit Xavier Mission outreach programs including the homeless shelter and soup kitchen. WBGO Jazz 88.3FM radio host Rob Crocker will emcee the celebration taking place on Saturday, May 8, 2010 at 7:30pm.

Miriam Theatre Presents Natalie Merchant, 7/20

On Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at 8pm, Natalie Merchant will perform at the Merriam Theater of the University of the Arts. This appearance is part of her nationwide tour in support of her new album Leave Your Sleep. The tour will be Merchant's first major outing in seven years. Merchant and her eight-piece band will perform new material as well as favorites from throughout her career.
