City Winery at Napa Valley Opera House Announces Initial Lineup

City Winery Napa at the Historic Napa Valley Opera House hased announce the much-anticipated artist lineup from the soft launch in April through June 2014. Over the next few weeks ten new concert dates a week will be released until the complete schedule of approximately twenty shows per month is announced. All shows begin at 8pm unless otherwise noted. 'East Towards Home' by Billy Yalowitz brings to life three generations of Jewish left-wing culture in New York City, combining tales of radical choreographers of the 1930's and 40's, texts and songs from Woody Guthrie, and first-person stories of the author's NYC Jewish left-wing childhood in the 1960's and 70's. With loose-limbed storytelling, visual projections, animation, modern dance and live music, it offers a personal and impassioned look at the culture and history of the American Jewish radical left-wing community at a time when this legacy is in danger of passing into obscurity. Theater for the New City will present the play's world premiere run January 16 to February 2, directed by David Schechter.

Born in 1912, Woodrow Wilson Guthrie was often better known as the hobo poet from Oklahoma, Woody Guthrie. The musician named after an American president protested against capitalism, consumerism and commercialism, which portrays a witty irony in all that he did and the music he based his songwriting on. With this as the background, The Rep's Stackner Cabaret presents the captivating revue Woody Sez: The Life & Music of Woody Guthrie, a traveling show first produced at the 2009 Edinburgh Festival Fringe by the Melting Pot Theatre.

Acclaimed singer/songwriter Jonatha Brooke opens her one-woman show My Mother Has 4 Noses (http://4noses.org) at The Duke on 42nd Street. The new musical play, written and performed by Brooke, and directed by Jeremy B. Cohen, has already played to sold-out houses at The Playwright's Center, Minneapolis, in August; at The Philly Fringe Fest at World Cafe Live, Philadelphia, in September; and again at the Guthrie Theater's Dowling Studio, Minneapolis, in December. Jonatha weaves 10 new songs through her experiences and stories -- the daily theatre of loving and caring for someone with dementia.
