The Foreigner is the last play in the 'Alley Theatre @ UH' season, starring Alley Resident Company member Jeffrey Bean in one of his signature roles as Charlie Baker.

The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation announced today that 41 organizations in its New York Theater Program will receive grants totaling $4.1 million. Ranging from $10,000 to $160,000, the grants will be used toward operating support over the next two years.

 BALLOON BOY: THE MUSICAL, a new musical featuring book, music and lyrics by Billy Recce, will be presented in the 2015 New York Musical Theatre Festival Developmental Reading Series.

Staged readings for the 2015 National Playwrights Conference begin this week at the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center. Under leadership from Artistic Director Wendy C. Goldberg in her 11th season, the famed conference will develop eight new plays, selected from a pool of 1,300 submissions, with support from an award-winning slate of actors and directors.

Chester Theatre Company will present the New England Premiere of HALCYON DAYS, by acclaimed Irish playwright Deirdre Kinahan. Performances of the witty, touching comedy about reawakening to life's possibilities will run from July 9-19.

The Playwrights Foundation's 38th Annual Bay Area Playwrights Festival (BAPF) runs July 17-26, 2015 at the Tides Theatre in San Francisco. BAPF 2015 builds on the festival's historic legacy of innovation in theater that then moves to theaters across the country.

Berkshire Theatre Group and Artistic Director/CEO, Kate Maguire, are thrilled to announce the casting for Berkshire Theatre Group's production of Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune directed by Karen Allen. Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune runs from Wednesday, July 29 to Saturday, August 22 at The Fitzpatrick Main Stage.

Aurora Theatre Company closes its 23rd season with the Bay Area Premiere of Lisa D'Amour's (Anna Bella Eema, Airline Highway) wicked Obie-winning satire about our uncertain economic times, DETROIT. Josh Costello (Wittenberg) directs this explosive dark comedy, featuring Amy Resnick (Body Awareness, Collapse), Jeff Garrett, Luisa Frasconi, and Patrick Kelly Jones (Metamorphosis), that brilliantly captures our current economic moment. DETROIT plays tonight, June 19 through July 19 at the Aurora Theatre in Berkeley.

Theatre Communications Group (TCG), the national organization for theatre, announces that at the 25th TCG National Conference: Game Change in Cleveland this weekend, June 18-20, the following awards will be presented:

 Jewish Plays Project (JPP), a development organization committed to putting bold, progressive Jewish conversations on world stages, continues its annual Open: Festival of play readings and workshops at the 14th Street Y including four new full-length plays and one new musical by Margot Connolly, Sarah Gancher, Gary Jaffe, David Hein & Irene Sankoff, and Sam Lahne.

Second Stage Theatre  continues the 2015 Uptown Series with the World Premiere of KING LIZ, written by Fernanda Coppel (Chimichangas and Zoloft) and directed by Lisa Peterson.  KING LIZ will feature MICHAEL CULLEN, JEREMIE HARRIS, RUSSELL G. JONES, CAROLINE LAGERFELT, IRENE SOFIA LUCIO, and KAREN PITTMAN.  Previews begin Monday, July 13th and opening night is Monday, July 27th.

California Shakespeare Theater continues its 2015 season with Pulitzer-Prize winning playwright Nilo Cruz's powerfully-penned adaptation of Life Is a Dream, Pedro Calderon de la Barca's epic tale of love, power, and destiny, Life Is a Dream. Directed by Magic Theatre's Artistic Director Loretta Greco in her Cal Shakes debut, Life Is a Dream plays at the Bruns Amphitheater from July 8 through August 2.

Continuing its commitment to developing new works, TheatreWorks Silicon Valley will gather playwrights and composers from across the nation for its 2015 New Works Festival at Palo Alto's Lucie Stern Theatre, where the public can attend performances, offer feedback, and participate in a panel discussion with the artists. 

Final casting has been set for the 2015 Planet Connections Theatre Festivity's Playwrights For A Cause, set to take place at 7:30pm on Sunday, June 14, 2015 at New York Theatre Workshop, 79 East 4th Street, on Sunday, June 14 at 7:30 pm. The evening, which will benefit the non-profit National Coalition Against Censorship, will showcase world premiere one-act plays by three acclaimed playwrights: Israel Horovitz's Breaking Phillip Glass and Erik Ehn's Her Speech, both directed by Planet Connections Theatre Festivity founder and PFAC Producing Artistic Curator Glory Kadigan, and Halley Feiffer's A Play About New Mexico, directed by Gaye Taylor Upchurch.

Masterworks Theater Company presents A Midsummer Night's Dream, starring Nick Cearley (The Skivvies) as Puck, Becca Ballenger (Steel Magnolias) as Helena, Em Grosland (The Erlkings) as Flute, Sheria Irving (Broadway's Romeo And Juliet) as Hermia and Jenny Strassburg (Echoes of War) as Titania.

Dorset Theatre Festival will be opening its annual New Play Reading Series with a piece by Polish-born, New Jersey-raised playwright Martyna Majok who recently won the David Calicchio Emerging American Playwright Prize.
