NY Phil's 'Insights Series' to Explore Beethoven's Piano Concertos with Yefim Bronfman, 5/20

The 2013-14 season of the New York Philharmonic's Insights Series will continue Tuesday, May 20, 2014, at 7:30 p.m. with "The Pinnacle of Cycles: Pianist Yefim Bronfman Speaks on Beethoven's Piano Concertos," when The Mary and James G. Wallach Artist-in-Residence Yefim Bronfman discusses Beethoven's piano concertos, which he will perform during The Beethoven Piano Concertos: A Philharmonic Festival, June 11-28, 2014. Leonard Bernstein Scholar-in-Residence Carol J. Oja will moderate.

The 2013-14 season of the New York Philharmonic's Insights Series will continue Monday, April 7, 2014, at 7:30 p.m. with "Leonard Bernstein Emerges: Defying Boundaries and Challenging Racial Politics During World War II," when Leonard Bernstein Scholar-in- Residence Carol J. Oja speaks about the Philharmonic Laureate Conductor's emergence as a conductor, composer, and activist for racial justice during his 20s.

Judith Clurman to Conduct Essential Voices USA with New York Pops at Carnegie Hall, 12/19-20

Judith Clurman's Essential Voices USA will be performing as part of The New York Pops holiday concerts, under the baton of Steven Reineke, at Carnegie Hall on December 19 and 20, 2013. Ms. Clurman will perform Stephen Paulus' choral work Wishes and Candles with her chorus and the orchestra, to honor her friend and colleague Stephen Paulus. It will be performed in a newly orchestrated version by Steven Mercurio. Wishes and Candles was composed in 1998. The text is by Alan and Marilyn Bergman. It is dedicated to Judith Clurman and the Lincoln Center Tree Lighting.

NY Philharmonic's 'Insights Series' Now Free; 2013-14 Lineup Kicks Off Today

Beginning with the 2013-14 season, the New York Philharmonic's Insights Series - in which artists and experts will explore some of the season's themes and concerts - will now be free, and take place at the David Rubenstein Atrium at Lincoln Center. This season's events will include discussions with Concertmaster Glenn Dicterow during his farewell season (TODAY, October 23); composer-conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen and violinist Leila Josefowicz (October 28), who will discuss Mr. Salonen's Violin Concerto, written for Ms. Josefowicz (which they will perform with the Philharmonic in its New York Concert Premiere, October 30-November 5); Music Director Alan Gilbert and Executive Director Matthew VanBesien on the state of the Philharmonic (March 3, 2014); The Mary and James G. Wallach Artist-in-Residence Yefim Bronfman (May 20, 2014), who will talk about Beethoven's piano concertos (which he will perform during The Beethoven Piano Concertos: A Philharmonic Festival, June 11-28, 2014); and discussions relating to the NY PHIL BIENNIAL, the details of which will be announced at a later date. All Insights Series events begin at 7:30 p.m.

Ogunquit Playhouse to Offer Backstage Tours Throughout October

The Ogunquit Playhouse, one of Maine's cultural jewels and a cornerstone of America's theatrical heritage, invites fans to take an exclusive backstage tour of the National Historic Register theatre this fall. For more than 80 years, the Ogunquit Playhouse has produced the finest Broadway shows, showcasing over 300 Broadway, television and film stars on its stage. Many who have entered the beautiful historic theatre have exclaimed, "If only these walls could talk!" Well, the walls can't talk, but a group of enthusiastic docents are ready and waiting to share the fascinating stories of the Ogunquit Playhouse.

The Picture Show at Bay Street Theatre continues in January with Marlon Brando Weekend. See ON THE WATERFRONT on January 13 and THE GODFATHER on January 14.
