Harris Theater Announces Hear The Music Season

The Harris Theater is pleased to announce its 2011-2012 Hear the Music season to include the first performances of a three-year annual concert series and residency presented in collaboration with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center (CMS), the nation's premier ensemble for chamber music, and the triumphant return of the extraordinary Vienna Symphony Orchestra (VSO), joined by the Grammy-nominated Eroica Trio.

EMI Classics Announces Release of Kate Royal's New Album, A Lesson in Love, 3/8

Kate Royal's new album, A Lesson in Love, which will be released in the U.S. on March 8, raises the curtain on a busy spring season for the British soprano in North America, beginning in March when Royal appears with the Boston Symphony for an imaginatively-programmed concert of music inspired by Shakespeare's The Tempest. Soon after, Royal heads to New York to begin rehearsals for her Metropolitan Opera debut in April, and in May she gives a three-city recital tour that will feature the program from the new album.

The Orion Ensemble Joins Ballet Chicago for 'Instruments of Revelation'

In a first-time collaboration, The Orion Ensemble, Chicago's nationally recognized and critically acclaimed chamber music ensemble, joins Ballet Chicago dancers for the world premiere of 'Instruments of Revelation' by Victoria Bond, on a program that also includes works by Rezsö Kókai and Franz Schubert. Performances take place March 6 at Fox Valley Presbyterian Church in Geneva and March 9 at Roosevelt University's Ganz Hall in Chicago.

Carolina Chocolate Drops Featured at AMERICAN SONGBOOK at Lincoln Center, 2/2-5

Lincoln Center's acclaimed series American Songbook, which explores the best of the golden age of musical standards through to the best in current songwriting, will bring to the stage some of today's most gifted interpreters of song. Week Three is a Grammy Awards fest, as three of the four acts are current and past nominees. On February 2nd one can experience life in the Piedmont hills of the Carolinas via the vibrant sound of the Carolina Chocolate Drops. This three-piece string band plays old-time roots music with virtuoso playing of the banjo, fiddle, guitar, harmonica, jug and more. Next up is the crown princess of bossa nova, Bebel Gilberto. Gilberto has taken classic bossa nova rhythms and mixed them with modern pop - for a sound that is up for a Grammy this year. On February 4th perennial Grammy nominee Joan Osborne will perform an emotionally-charged work she has written with Jack Petruzzelli: Love and Hate - A Song Cycle. On February 5th, actress/singer Anika Noni Rose, a Tony winner for Caroline, Or Change, will make her eagerly-anticipated solo concert debut.

Lincoln Center's acclaimed series American Songbook, which explores the best of the golden age of musical standards through to today's most dynamic songwriting, will bring to the stage some of today's most gifted interpreters of song. Week Two starts on January 26th with a tribute to arguably the greatest songwriting team in American Songbook history: the brothers George and Ira Gershwin. Conductor, arranger and pianist (as well as Artistic Director of the Gershwin centenary) Rob Fisher will lead Victoria Clark (Tony winner for Light in the Piazza) and Norm Lewis (Les Miserables, The Little Mermaid) in a night of gorgeous Gershwin. On January 27th singer/songwriter Shara Worden (from the group My Brightest Diamond) performs her unique blend of vocal music that has her pegged as a star to watch. Alan Gilbert Conducts NY Premiere of 'In Seven Days,' 1/8

Music Director Alan Gilbert will lead the New York Philharmonic in the New York Premiere of Thomas Adès's multimedia In Seven Days (Concerto for Piano with Moving Image), Thursday, January 6, 2011, at 7:30 p.m., Friday, January 7, at 8:00 p.m., and Saturday, January 8, at 8:00 p.m. The score, which the composer will perform at the piano in his Philharmonic debut, is synchronized with Israeli artist and filmmaker Tal Rosner's kaleidoscopic imagery, projected onto six large screens. Mr. Adès calls it a 'video-ballet in seven movements' that follows the story of creation. The program will also include Mozart's Symphony No. 40, and Mahler's Kindertotenlieder, with baritone Thomas Hampson.
