Theatricum Botanicum Supports New Plays with 'Botanicum Seedlings' Series, 11/15 & 11/22

With the 2009 Summer Classical Repertory Season at a close, The Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum broadens its scope to focus on activities such as its year-round educational programs and ongoing development series for playwrights, 'Botanicum Seedlings.' The program's Fall Playreadings are Laura Shamas' Trapper Joan on Sunday, November 15 and Twigs and Bone by Tiffany Antone on Sunday, November 22. Readings begin at 1 pm, and admission is free.

A Noise Within Announces RICHARD III As Opening Show Of 2009-2010 Season, Runs 10/3-12/12

A Noise Within (ANW), the critically acclaimed classical repertory theatre company hailed by critics as 'adventurous,' 'compelling and current,' 'ingenuity at work,' and 'what great theatre is all about,' launches its 2009-10 season with Shakespeare's spellbinding Richard III directed by ANW Co-Founder/Co-Artistic Director Geoff Elliott, opening Saturday, October 3 and closing Saturday, December 12, 2009 (previews begin Saturday, September 26), at the company's theatre in Glendale.

Robert Redford will be at BAM in-person to discuss his work as one of the 20th century's most celebrated actors and as an Academy-award winning director, as well as a leading environmental and social change activist, and champion of independent cinema as founder of The Sundance Institute.

An old Southern family desperately clings to tradition in a newly updated version of The Cherry Orchard. Anton Chekhov's poignant comedy, freely adapted by Heidi Helen Davis and Ellen Geer, opens on June 27 on The Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum's outdoor stage in Topanga. Davis directs, and Geer takes on the role of Lubov Andreyevna Ranevsky - 'Lillian Randolph Cunningham' in this adaptation.

NorthEast Shakespeare Ensemble Presents COMEDY OF ERRORS & GODOT 6/18-7/4

For its sixth season, the NorthEast Shakespeare Ensemble will present Shakespeare's Comedy of Errors in repertory with Samuel Beckett's Waiting for Godot, at the Lebanon Opera House from June 18 through July 4. These two classic plays will showcase the versatile talents of NESE's acting Company: Comedy is a fast-paced popular delight, full of puns, wordplay and slapstick humor, and one of the funniest plays the Bard ever wrote; in contrast, Godot is a tragicomedy, where 'nothing' happens, but audiences still stay glued to their seats.

TPO's 30th Anniversary Concert To Take Place 5/16

The Topanga Philharmonic Orchestra (TPO) celebrates its gala 30th anniversary with a concert of family fare to benefit programming at The Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum. Conductor Guido Lamell of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra is joined by musicians of the Los Angeles and Santa Monica Philharmonic Orchestras, and Theatricum artistic director Ellen Geer weaves theatrical magic into the music with selections from the upcoming Mainstage Repertory Season that includes Julius Caesar and Cymbeline by William Shakespeare, The Cherry Orchard by Anton Chekov and The Miser by Moliere. The benefit performance to support the non-profit theater's repertory and education programs that entertain, inspire and educate thousands of Angelenos each year, will take place at Theatricum Botaniucm's rustic outdoor amphitheater in Topanga on Saturday, May 16 at 2:00 pm.
