El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood has announced that they will be presenting a sing-along showing of Disney's hit animated film THE LION KING this August.

At Saturday's D23 Expo in Anaheim CA, Disney treated fans to a first look at footage from the highly anticipated live-action remake of THE LION KING.

Oprah Winfrey, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Stan Lee, Julie Taymor, and other remarkable contributors to the Disney legacy were honored as official Disney Legends during D23 Expo 2017. Hosted by Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger, the Disney Legends Award ceremony was held on Friday, July 14, in Hall D23 of the Anaheim Convention Center.

As BWW previously reported, Oprah Winfrey, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Stan Lee, Julie Taymor, and other remarkable contributors to the Disney legacy will be honored as official Disney Legends during D23 Expo 2017. In a surprise announcement today, it was revealed that Whoopi Goldberg joins the esteemed list of honorees.

At this morning's Disney Legends Award ceremony, Anika Noni Rose, a Disney Legend herself, paid tribute to this year's Legends during the 2017 D23 Expo. Check out video of her appearance below!

Cockpit in Court Summer Theatre continues its 45th season with Sister Act, a feel-good comedy based on the Touchstone Pictures motion picture starring Whoopi Goldberg. Sister Act was a Hollywood blockbuster in the early 1990s, pegged as a family comedy that cashed in on the sheer star power of Whoopi Goldberg. A quarter of a century later, Whoopi remains at the helm--this time as a producer of the Broadway incarnation. While her illustrious charm sells almost everything she's in, Sister Act the motion picture doesn't begin to compare to the polished genius of this stage adaptation.

Old Log Theatre's contribution to the summer blockbuster musical is GHOST THE MUSICAL, based on the popular 1990 movie. It premiered on Broadway in 2012 and ran for only a few months, and when I saw the tour the following year I was not impressed. At the time I wrote, 'At its core, GHOST is a small intimate love story, but GHOST THE MUSICAL is a big splashy techno-heavy 'show,' in which the beauty of that story gets lost. The story would be better served with less tricks, a smaller cast, fewer showy songs, and a greater focus on what we really care about - the relationship between Molly and Sam.' I'm thrilled to report that Old Log has done just that. The score, which is quite good, the story, and the relationships between the characters are more the focus of the show, with lower tech effects that serve the story rather than drawing attention away from it. If you're looking for a satisfying summer musical experience, head out to Old Log Theatre, one of the oldest theaters in Minnesota, in lovely Excelsior on Lake Minnetonka.
