WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF Opens 4/22 at City of Fairfax Theatre Company

The City of Fairfax Theatre Company will present Edward Albee's 'Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf' on April 22 - May 8, 2016. Performances will take place in the Old Town Hall, 3999 University Drive, Fairfax. 'Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf' won the 1963 Tony Award for Best Play and established Edward Albee as the most important playwright of his generation.

Kitchen Theatre Company Artistic Director Announces Retirement

Kitchen Theatre Company Artistic Director Rachel Lampert has informed the Board of Directors that the 2016-2017 / 26th Season will be her final season at the theater. 'Next season will be my twentieth as Artistic Director, and I feel that is a milestone and an appropriate time to start new endeavors - my third act. I wanted to be sure the Board of Directors had ample time to find the next Artistic Director, so I have let them know of my plans,' says Lampert. Lampert's tenure has been marked by Kitchen Theatre Company's evolution from a struggling upstart to an established cultural center for Ithaca, Tompkins County and Central New York. She has championed the work of artists of color, women and LGBTQ writers, directors and actors. As a producer, she is recognized for her savvy ability to choose seasons that keep subscribers returning while provocatively pushing the envelope and always maintaining the core mission that 'important conversations happen in the Kitchen.'

Contra Costa Civic Theatre to Present THE MOUNTAINTOP,4 4/15-5/8

Contra Costa Civic Theatre (CCCT) continues its 56th season with The Mountaintop, Katori Hall's daring reimagining of a seminal event in American history, directed by CCCT Artistic Director Marilyn Langbehn. The Mountaintop plays from April 15 through May 8- performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm, and Sundays at 2pm at the theatre.

Stage & Screen Actor Shawn Elliott Passes Away at 79

Shawn Elliott, a dynamic actor and singer on stage, film, and TV for nearly 60 years, passed away on March 11 at his home in New York City, surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was 79.

Maggie Lacey and John Douglas Thompson to Lead A DOLL'S HOUSE and THE FATHER Off-Broadway

Theatre for a New Audience has announced complete casting for A DOLL'S HOUSE, in an adaptation by Thornton Wilder not seen in New York since its Broadway premiere in 1937, and August Strindberg's THE FATHER, in a new version by Scottish author David Greig (Strindberg's Creditors at BAM) commissioned by Theatre for a New Audience.

Richard Bean's TOAST to Make US Debut at 59E59 Theaters

59E59 Theaters will host the US premiere of TOAST, written by Richard Bean and directed by Eleanor Rhode. Produced by Snapdragon Productions, in association with Jagged Fence Theatre for the 2016 Brits Off Broadway festival, TOAST begins performances on Wednesday, April 20 for a limited engagement through Sunday, May 22.  Press opening is Wednesday, April 27 at 7 PM.

Tom Hagemann's 1946 to Premiere at Main Street Theater

Main Street Theater (MST) continues its 40th Anniversary Season with the world premiere of 1946 by Houston playwright Thomas Hagemann. Main Street produced the world premiere of Mr. Hagemann's Breakfast at Eight in 2010 as well as the staged reading of 1946 in 2014.

The Wallis to Honor Mike Nichols with Tribute Panel & Film Screenings, 3/12

The iconic work of director Mike Nichols (1931-2014), adored by audiences and critics alike for such films as The Graduate, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? and Angels in America, will be celebrated on Sat, March 12 at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts with a one-day tribute that highlights two of his award-winning classic films and a panel featuring friends and colleagues of the late filmmaker. One of few individuals to win an Oscar, a Tony, an Emmy and a Grammy Award, Nichols achieved landmark status on Broadway and in Hollywood from the 1950s through 2014, the year he passed away. Screenwriter Buck Henry (Catch-22, The Graduate) and producer Lawrence Turman (The Graduate) will be joined by Vanity Fair editor Sam Kashner to reminisce, share stories and discuss the impact the legendary stage and screen director had on their lives and work (additional panelists to be announced). The panel, moderated by Pete Hammond, takes place on the stage of Bram Goldsmith Theater at The Wallis between screenings. Admission to the panel discussion is free and is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
