Full Cast Announced for Florida Grand Opera's 2013-14 Season

Florida Grand Opera (FGO) announces its 73rd continuous season of grand opera featuring an innovative new vision with provocative repertoire under the direction of General Director and CEO Susan T. Danis. In addition to a wealth of exciting artists making their debuts with the company, the 2013-2014 season features: the Southeast American premiere of Marvin David Levy's Mourning Becomes Electra followed by Verdi's Nabucco, Puccini's Tosca, and Massenet's Thaïs.

Zayd Dohrn'sLONG WAY GO DOWN is a fast-paced and often brutal story with hyper-realistic dialogue in English and Spanish. With evocatively moody original music by Jared Swanson and an incredible multi-level and location set by Michael Allen, effectively lit by the show's producer Johnny Patrick Yoder, the intense one-act tells the story of four people from two Americas, each hell-bent on finding a better life and willing to cross any border, both physically and emotionally, to do it.

The Art of Acting Studio's professional company, The Harold Clurman Laboratory Theater Company, presents the West Coast Premiere of Long Way Go Down by Zayd Dorhn. Directed by Don K. Williams (Off-Broadway Lebensraum, Turn of the Screw, Look Back in Anger, Libidoff), Long Way Go Down will play tonight, May 17th - June 7, 2013.

SANTA'S STORY Returns to the Fugard Theatre in Cape Town, Now thru May 26

Esteemed opera diva Aviva Pelham, recounts her 95 year old mother's fascinating tale of survival through song in SANTA'S STORY which returns to the Fugard Studio Theatre in Cape Town by popular demand from today, 14 to 26 May 2013 for a limited season. The production has also been invited to Helsinki in October.

THE MET: LIVE IN HD Summer Encore Series Coming to U.S. Cinemas

Beginning Wednesday, June 19, the Metropolitan Opera and NCM Fathom Events will once again present Summer HD Encores, a series of encore performances from the groundbreaking Live in HD series, in nearly 400 select U.S. cinemas nationwide

DIALOGUES DES CARMELITES to Return to the Met on 5/4

Dialogues des Carmelites, Poulenc's opera about a group of nuns whose faith is tested under the Terror of the French Revolution, will return to the Met repertory on May 4 for the first time since 2002. In role debuts, Isabel Leonard will sing the naive aristocrat Blanche de la Force and Patricia Racette will sing Madame Lidoine, the imposing Prioress of a Carmelite convent. Felicity Palmer will reprise her portrayal of the ailing Madame de Croissy, a role she sang to acclaim in the most recent Met revival of the opera. Louis Langree conducts his first Met performances of the work, with a cast that also includes Elizabeth Bishop as Mother Marie, Erin Morley as Sister Constance, and Paul Appleby as Blanche's brother, the Chevalier de la Force. The opera will be presented in John Dexter's acclaimed 1977 Met premiere production.

Ailyn Pérez Will Release Album in May

She releases Poeme d'un jour, her debut solo album presenting French and Spanish songs, on the Opus Arte label (May 28 in the U.S., see full track list below).

Washington National Opera Welcomes Diana Damrau Tonight

Washington National Opera presents German soprano Diana Damrau in recital as part of its Celebrity Concert Series tonight, April 8 at 8 p.m. in the Kennedy Center Eisenhower Theater. Accompanied by harpist Xavier de Maistre, Damrau will perform selections from Schubert, R. Strauss, Hahn, Chausson, Duparc, and more. Both artists make their WNO debuts with this performance.

LA TRAVIATA Closes the 72nd Season at Florida Grand Opera

Florida Grand Opera's (FGO) 72nd season comes to a close on a high note with one of the most beloved opera's of all time, Verdi's La traviata, as told through the beloved production of director-designer team Bliss Hebert and Allen Charles Klein. The passionate story unfolds with two stellar casts led by sopranos María Alejandres and Suzanne Vinnik, opening April 20 at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts.

Besides singing her dream role of Violetta for the first time anywhere, soprano Diana Damrau was also RIGOLETTO's Gilda in the Met's new 'Ratpack' production that was seen by millions worldwide as an HD broadcast in February. And, oh yes, there was the arrival of her second son, Colyn, whose impending birth late in 2012 had sent the opera world into a tizzy, when Mama Damrau began cancelling performances.

David Daniels and Natalie Dessay Will Lead The Met's GUILIO CAEARE

David Daniels and Natalie Dessay will sing the leading roles of Julius Caesar and Cleopatra inDavid McVicar's production of Handel's Giulio Cesare, which premieres at the Met April 4. Baroque specialist Harry Bicket will lead ten performances of the popular staging, originally produced at the Glyndebourne Festival, which incorporates many innovative elements into the story of Caesar and Cleopatra's unlikely romance-including extensive choreography by Andrew George. The other principal stars of this production include Alice Coote in the trouser role of the Roman youth Sesto, Italian baritone Guido Loconsolo in his Met debut as the scheming Egyptian general Achilla, John Moore as the Roman general Curio, and three stars of McVicar's original Glyndebourne Festival production: Patricia Bardon as the Roman widow Cornelia, Sesto's stepmother; Christophe Dumaux as Tolomeo, Cleopatra's brother and co-ruler; and Moroccan countertenor Rachid Ben Abdeslam in his Met debut as the Egyptian servant Nireno. The production features set design by Robert Jones, costume design by Brigitte Reiffenstuel, and lighting design by Paule Constable. The Saturday, April 27 matinee performance of Giulio Cesare will be transmitted worldwide as part of the Met's Live in HD series, which is now seen in more than 1,900 movie theaters in 64 countries around the world.

Piotr Beczala Sings First Met Performances in Title Role of Gounod's FAUST Tonight

Piotr Beczala will sing the title role in Gounod's Faust for the first time at the Met beginning tonight, March 21, opposite Marina Poplavskaya as Marguerite, a role she sang in the 2011 premiere of Des McAnuff's production. Alain Altinoglu, who led Faust at the Met last season, returns to conduct the opera, which also stars John Relyea as the diabolical Mephistopheles, Alexey Markov as Valentin, and Julie Boulianne as Siebel.

The Dallas Opera to Present TURANDOT, Opening 4/5

The Dallas Opera is will present Giacomo Puccini's breathtakingly beautiful 20th century masterpiece, TURANDOT, this sad and powerful opera was Puccini final work. TURANDOT opens on Friday, April 5, 2013 (The Amy and Vernon Faulconer Performance) in theMargot and Bill Winspear Opera House at the AT&T Performing Arts Center in the Dallas Arts District, underwritten in part by TACA.
