The San Francisco International Arts Festival is relieved to announce that all five members of the Spitfire Company landed at San Francisco International Airport last night and successfully crossed customs and excise into the United States. Spitfire is the last company to arrive for this year's Festival. Their visas finally being approved and processed on Friday May 24. In light of recent visa reversals the Festival organization is glad the Spitfire Company was able to make it.
NPTC and Banana Boat Productions are reprising their powerful production of The Ritual by noted Trinidadian playwright Zeno Obi Constance at New Perspectives Studio, 458 West 37th Street (@10th Avenue.) This limited-run production celebrates the 40th Anniversary of Constance's ground-breaking play which caused a stir in 1979 when it was aired live on Trinidadian television-and then blacked out in the middle of the broadcast because it was perceived to be too shocking. Untitled Theater Company No. 61 (UTC61) presents a new play by Edward Einhorn examining the nexus between neuroscience, marketing, art, and love. Set at a neuromarketing firm, it follows a neuroscientist who is trying to scientifically define love; his wife, an artist who is using her brain scans as the basis of video self-portraits; a marketer who is trying to apply the science of love to advertising; and a gallery owner who deals with art as a commodity. This multimedia production continues UTC61's ongoing interest in combining theater with the fields of economics and neuroscience.
