Cold winds may not often blow into the Valley of the Sun, but we still need the warmth of music like Cecilia McDowall's A Winter's Night.  Through creative re-harmonization, rhythmic variation, and imaginative linking passages, McDowall uses beautiful carols to conjure a joyful atmosphere, delighting with familiar and surprising material in equal measure.  This lovely celebration of carols opens the Chorale's winter concert.

WHAT:                   Chief Conductor and Music Director of the Tonhalle Orchestra                    Zurich and former LA Phil Resident Conductor Lionel                     Bringuier and superstar pianist Yuja Wang reunite with the Los                    Angeles Philharmonic at Walt Disney Concert Hall for three                    performances, Friday and Saturday, November 20 and 21, at                    8 pm, and Sunday, November 22, at 2 pm. The two performed                    together with the LA Phil earlier this year when they opened the                    classical season of the Hollywood Bowl. Also on the program are                    the voices of the Los Angeles Master Chorale for the U.S. premiere                    of Esa-Pekka Salonen's Karawane. 

Jeff McCarthy starred in Broadway's Beauty & The Beast, Chicago, Les Miserables, and the original casts of Side Show (Terry) and Urinetown, creating the role of Officer Lockstock, which he reprised several times for the Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS events, The Easter Bonnet and Gypsy of the Year competitions. He's spending his holiday season in Washington D.C. at the Arena Stage, where he'll take on the role of Fagin in their production of Oliver!. Jeff took a moment to chat with me about the show, as well as his past, present, and future plans.

This provocative solo performance, written and performed by Tom Dugan and directed by Jenny Sullivan, is an uplifting and highly entertaining one-man show that unfolds like a gripping spy thriller, telling how Wiesenthal devoted his life to bringing more than 1,100 Nazi war criminals to justice after WW II.
