To most he's rough, rowdy and rocking, but Brantley Gilbert fans know the life and thought in songs like “Three Feet of Water,” “One Hell of an Amen,” “You Don't Know Her Like I Do” and “The Ones That Like Me.” Given that Nashville is a songwriters' town, the man who won the American Music Awards' Favorite Country Album for Just As I Am and was nominated for the Country Music Association's Song of the Year for “Dirt Road Anthem” wanted to give his songs a special treatment when his The Ones That Like Me Tour hit Nashville.

Seattle Opera teams up with both ACT Theatre and Seattle Symphony for the first time to celebrate Shakespeare in a brand-new production of Berlioz's Beatrice and Benedict. The story, based on Shakespeare's Much Ado about Nothing, delights in the "skirmish of wits" between fiery Beatrice and bombastic Benedict and their failed resolution to avoid falling in love with each other. Their merry-war-turned-love-story has proven catnip to Hollywood-there are two film versions, one directed by Buffy the Vampire Slayer writer Joss Whedon, and the other directed by Kenneth Branagh and also starring Emma Thompson, Denzel Washington, Keanu Reeves, and Michael Keaton. Now the story is ready for the Seattle Opera treatment.

Say what you will, The Hypocrites have found a way to transform traditional theatre into a form of entertainment that appeals to folks who'd rather go to a party than sit in a theater. And they've done it using Gilbert & Sullivan's operetta THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE. No joke.
Nicole Henriksen takes Vault Festival by a quiet storm, tackling mental health, feminism, and stereotypes at once with A Robot In Human Skin. Ok, y'all…I'm going to be honest. A cappella - or as my aunt, with her charming ignorance, would call it 'acapulco singing' - is just not my jam. Groups that sing sacred 'hits' without vibrato has never been a way I'd choose to spend an afternoon. Maybe it's because I suck at this type of singing? Unclear. But, in this case, I have to concede to the King's Singers and the beautiful, tranquil sea of sound they presented at their delightful concert in New York City. Besides being offensively talented, who couldn't love a group of cute boys singing to you in a gorgeous church? I never stood a chance. The evening was charming.
