San Francisco Girls Chorus to Finish Off Season with Concert Featuring Carla Kihlstedt, 6/5

San Francisco, CA, April 13, 2015 –The five-time Grammy Award-winning San Francisco Girls Chorus will conclude its 2014-2015 season with an ambitious and ingenious program exploring the serious fun of modern and contemporary music Friday, June 5, at 8 pm at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Artistic Director Lisa Bielawa has announced. Conducted by SFGC Music Director Valérie Sainte-Agathe and featuring guest composer/violinist Carla Kihlstedt, the program includes a new work by Kihlstedt and her Hold my own with the composer as soloist, John Cage's iconic Living Room Music, Meredith Monk's Panda Chant, selections from Lou Harrison's Mass for Saint Cecilia's Day, Einojuhani Rautavaara's Viatonten Valsi and John Adams' Desert Chorus—both with Kihlstedt on violin, William Schuman's Requiescat and To Thy Love, Lisa Bielawa's Opening: Forest from the opera Vireo and The Andrews Sisters' “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy” and “Beat Me Daddy”. The concert's repertoire will be performed by the Girls Chorus on tour in Estonia, Finland and Sweden in June.

The Bloody Jug Band Releases New Album in April

The Bloody Jug Band continues to bring their horror influenced sounds to the masses. Their latest album, Rope Burn, launches thirteen more bloody tunes, this April. The Blood Jug Band, who hail from Orlando, Florida, have been making music for over six years. Debuting their first album in 2010 (Coffin Up Blood), their second album will continue to bring Roots Rock and Florida Swamp Noir to the masses.

2015 New York Hot Jazz Fest to Kick Off May 3

Baryshnikov Arts Center to Continue Anniversary Season with Three Concerts

New York, NY – The Baryshnikov Arts Center (BAC) continues its 10th anniversary celebratory season with three concerts in April, reflecting BAC's expanded series of music programming for 2015. The weeklong celebration begins Monday, April 6 at 7:30pm, with one of BAC's signature events – a BAC Salon – in the Howard Gilman Performance Space, featuring the chamber music of Berio, Cage, and Mozart in an intimate salon setting. On Wednesday, April 8 at 7:30pm, composer and jazz pianist Stephen Prutsman will perform the entirety of his album Passengers for the first time ever, in another BAC Salon in the Howard Gilman Performance Space. The final performance of the week, on Saturday, April 11 at 8pm in the Jerome Robbins Theater, features the Latvian National Choir, hailing from BAC Artistic Director Mikhail Baryshnikov's birthplace of Riga and bringing to New York a program that includes music by Arvo Pärt, Grammy nominee Ugis Praulins, and the U.S. premieres of works by acclaimed Latvian composers Jekabs Janchevskis, Gundega Smite, and Raimonds Tiguls. The Latvian National Choir last appeared in New York as part of the 2010 White Light Festival at Lincoln Center, in performances The New York Times described as “ravishing.”
