Mercury Musical Developments and Musical Theatre Network have announced the winners of the next three placements for the Cameron Mackintosh Resident Composer Scheme.

A visually splendorous stateside transfer of a recent production of William Shakespeare's classic comedy A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM created by noted WAR HORSE theatrical collaborators Bristol Old Vic and Handspring Puppet Company, directed by Tom Morris, will be presented next year for a limited run at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. and tickets are now on sale.

The National Theatre's internationally acclaimed stage production of War Horse received its world premiere at the National Theatre in October 2007, and has now been seen by over 4 million people worldwide. Now celebrating its sixth year on the London stage and recently extending booking until October 2014, Nick Stafford's adaptation of Michael Morpurgo's book continues to play to sell-out houses at the New London Theatre in the West End. Having won multiple awards internationally, War Horse is directed by Marianne Elliott and Tom Morris and designed by Rae Smith, with puppet direction, design and fabrication by Basil Jones and Adrian Kohler for Handspring Puppet Company, lighting by Paule Constable, and movement and horse choreography by Toby Sedgwick, with video design by Leo Warner and Mark Grimmer, songmaker John Tams, music by Adrian Sutton and sound by Christopher Shutt. The Metropolitan Opera has announced the addition of three new composers to its Met/LCT New Works Program. Matthew Aucoin, David T. Little, and Joshua Schmidt, three critically heralded young composers, have signed on to develop new operas through the program, which allows gifted composers and librettists to workshop new material for the opera and music theater stages, using the resources of the Met and Lincoln Center Theater. Nico Muhly's Two Boys, workshopped through the program, will have its North American premiere at the Met on October 21.

You know that dream where you find yourself naked on a stage with everyone laughing at you? It's an unfortunate reality for Miltos Yerolemou, the actor who plays Bottom in Bristol Old Vic's production ofA MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM as part of New Haven's International Festival of Ideas.

National Theatre Live is pleased to announce that the June 13 live broadcast of Peter Morgan's Olivier Award-winning new play The Audience was seen by nearly 30,000 people in North America and nearly 80,000 people in the UK - the largest audience ever for a live broadcast from National Theatre Live. Due to the record-breaking response to the National Theatre Live broadcast of The Audience, many encore screenings have already been added, and more encores will be added throughout the summer internationally. In North America, there are currently 700 screenings scheduled throughout the summer, with additional encores to be added still; in the UK, nearly 800 screenings will take place - the largest number of screenings for a National Theatre Live broadcast in both North America and the UK ever. The Audience played its final performance at London's Gielgud Theatre on June 15, starring internationally acclaimed actress Helen Mirren as The Queen, directed by Stephen Daldry, and won two 2013 Olivier Awards for Best Actress (Helen Mirren) and Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Richard McCabe).
