On Tuesday, April 14th, 2015, Ballet Hispanico opened its season. Under the artistic direction of Eduardo Vilaro, who became the company's second artistic director in 2009 since the company was founded and directed in 1970 by Tina Ramirez, the repertoire and feel has changed. Today's Ballet Hispanico tends toward the contemporary.

Ballet Hispanico has announced that artistic director Eduardo Vilaro has been recognized as an outstanding artist living or working in Westchester County through ArtsWestchester's 50th anniversary initiative '50 for 50.' The fifty artists were selected through a competitive nomination process for the quality of their artistic work and their cultural contributions to the community. All artists will receive $1,000 prizes at an ArtsWestchester luncheon on April 16, 2015.

The program for the evening will include Artistic Director Eduardo Vilaro's Asuka, a special piece celebrating the life and music of Celia Cruz on the anniversary of her 2003 passing. Ms. Cruz last performed in Central Park's SummerStage in 2002. Ballet Hispanico's pre-professional second company, BHdos, will also participate in SummerStage with a performance at St. Mary's Park in the Bronx on Friday, July 11 at 7pm. The evening will showcase the creations of Venezuelan-born fashion designer Angel Sanchez as modeled by Ballet Hispanico company dancers in a unique presentation choreographed by Artistic Director Eduardo Vilaro. Mr. Sanchez's collaboration with Ballet Hispanico includes the design of original costumes for a new choreographic work premiering at the Company's New York Season at the Joyce Theater on April 15-27, 2014.
