THE MAYOR OF CASTERBRIDGE Musical Plays TNC, Now thru 6/19

'Casterbridge,' based on Thomas Hardy's classic Victorian novel, 'The Mayor of Casterbridge,' is a new musical theater work with book and lyrics by David Willinger and music by Christopher Beste. The 20-character, two-act musical is fairly faithful to Hardy's parable of the spiritual ups and downs of man and features a score inspired by English country music of the period. Theater for the New City will present the piece's world premiere run today, June 4 to 19, directed by Willinger.

The Group Rep Premieres LOVE AGAIN Musical Tonight

The Group Rep presents the world premiere musical Love Again, book by Doug Haverty, music by Adryan Russ, lyrics by Russ and Haverty, directed by Kay Cole, produced by Richard Alan Woody and Jon Cortez for The Group Rep, with musical direction by Richard Berent.

BWW Reviews: THE GHOST TRAIN, Belgrade Theatre Coventry, May 12 2015

Brighton-based theatre company Talking Scarlet are building up an increasing repertoire of stage productions and there are currently four of their shows on the road. The play I had the pleasure of seeing last night was The Ghost Train by Arnold Ridley. A comedy thriller written in 1923; it has been revived countless times over the last ninety years and considering it only took Ridley a week to write, that's rather impressive!

RSC to Tour THE FAMOUS VICTORIES OF HENRY V

The Royal Shakespeare Company continues its commitment to creating live theatre for young audiences with its First Encounters with Shakespeare production of The Famous Victories of Henry V - a 90 minute adventure condensing the three great plays of Henry IV Parts I and II and Henry V.

Baltimore Symphony Orchestra Presents TCHAIKOVSKY: MAD BUT FOR MUSIC Tonight

Music Director Marin Alsop leads her final Off the Cuff concert of the 2014-2015 season in collaboration with playwright in residence and director Didi Balle for a symphonic play exploring the life of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky as he wrote his Fifth Symphony. The semi-staged production, taking place tonight, April 10, at 8:15 p.m. at The Music Center at Strathmore and Saturday, April 11, at 7 p.m. at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, will take audiences into the mind of Tchaikovsky as he expresses his thoughts and feelings on fate, death, sexuality, money, madness and love.

Clear Space Theatre Company Sets Cast of THE LITTLE MERMAID

The Clear Space Theatre Company has announced the cast for their Spotlight on Young Performers production of THE LITTLE MERMAID (MTI's JR Series Version). The 2008 Broadway musical was based on the classic1989 Disney animated film and tells the story of Ariel and her aquatic friends in a magical, underwater kingdom. The beautiful young mermaid Ariel longs to leave her ocean home-and her fins-behind and live in the world above. But first, she'll have to defy her father King Triton, make a deal with the evil sea witch Ursula, and convince the handsome Prince Eric that she's the girl whose enchanting voice he's been seeking. The show is directed by Clear Space Company Manager, David Button, with choreography by Shondelle Graulich of the Delaware Stage School, and musical direction by Melanie Bradley.

Betsy Mugavero, Tony Amendola & More Set for Utah Shakespeare Festival's 2015 Season

The Utah Shakespeare Festival has announced the casting of the first eight actors for the 2015 season. All are familiar faces, having appeared at the Festival in the past. Actors include Tony Amendola, Melinda Pfundstein, Aaron Galligan-Stierle, Sam Ashdown, Betsy Mugavero, Peter Sham, David Ivers and Brian Vaughn. The Lilly Awards Foundation has announced complete casting for the Inaugural (3)Plays from The Kilroys' List: A Reading Series featuring new works by female playwrights Larissa FastHorse, Meg Miroshnik and Laura Schellhardt, with female directors Lear deBessonet, Leigh Silverman and Liesl Tommy. The acting company includes Emily Bergl ('Desperate Housewives'), America Ferrerra ('Ugly Betty'), and Kate Mulgrew ('Orange is the New Black'), with Kally Duling, Alexandra Henriksen, Colbie Minifie, Jesse Perez, Madeline Sayet, and Erin Wilhelmi (Perks of Being a Wallflower).

Take 6 writers and give them 12 hours to write a ten minute play. Include some random ingredients, some curveballs, and one line chosen by the public. The next day, grab a director and? tons of actors, rehearse those shows and perform them that night at 7:30. That's Pop-Up Plays, popping up for the second year at Town Hall Theater tonight, March 7th at 7:30pm. The whole event takes place in 24 hours, which makes it the freshest theater experience around.

The Acting Company in association with The Guthrie Theater presents William Shakespeare's "Macbeth," directed by Devin Brain, Friday, March 20, 8 p.m.; and "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court," adapted by acclaimed playwright Jeffrey Hatcher from the novel by Mark Twain, directed by Ian Belknap, Saturday, March 21 at 8 p.m. Both performances take place at the McAninch Arts Center, 425 Fawell Blvd., on the campus of College of DuPage. The Old Globe's West Coast Premiere of The Twenty-seventh Man by award-winning novelist Nathan Englander, directed by Globe Artistic Director Barry Edelstein, will now play an extra week of performances -- through March 22, 2015.
