Detroit Symphony Orchestra to Stage 'A MUSICAL TALE OF TWO CITIES', 6/2-4

The Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) will stage a three-day festival June 2-4 exploring renewal in Detroit and New Orleans through performance and cultural exchange. The festival, entitled 'A Musical Tale of Two Cities: Motown Meets The Big Easy,' will examine how these two cities have used their legacy of unique musical and artistic culture to heal and renew themselves after economic and natural disaster.

Opera Parallèle Announces Schedule for 2015-2016 Season

San Francisco, CA, April 9, 2015 – Opera Parallèle has announced its 2015--2016 season, which will feature its first collaboration with SFJAZZ, a new production of Peter Maxwell Davies' riveting and mysterious The Lighthouse, and the world premiere of a new children's opera by Chris Pratorius. Opera Parallèle and SFJAZZ will present their first collaboration: a new, fully staged production of Champion: An Opera in Jazz by Terence Blanchard, SFJAZZ Resident Artistic Director, with eight performances to be given February 19-28, 2016 at SFJAZZ Center. Based on the life of African-American boxing champion Emile Griffith (1938-2013), the production marks both Opera Parallèle's first foray into an operatic jazz idiom and SFJAZZ's first opera. The complete schedule of performances will be announced and tickets go on sale to the general public mid-July, 2015. For more information, visit www.operaparallele.org and www.sfjazz.org. Peter Maxwell Davies' three-character opera, The Lighthouse, based on the mysterious and unsolved disappearance of three people off the Scottish coast in 1900 will be given a new production April 29-May 1, 2016 at Z Space in San Francisco. The season will open with the world premiere of a new children's opera by Chris Pratorius entitled Amazing Grace, featuring San Francisco fourth graders and soloists, November 12-14, 2015, at a venue to be announced. National YoungArts Foundation Now Accepting Applications for 2016

Today the National YoungArts Foundation (YoungArts), the non-profit organization that recognizes and nurtures the nation's most talented young artists in the visual, literary, design and performing arts, announced that applications to become a 2016 YoungArts Winner will be accepted from April 21, 2015 through October 16, 2015. Young artists between the ages of 15 and 18 or in high school grades 10-12 (as of December 1, 2015) across the nation are encouraged to apply online at http://www.youngarts.org/apply.

Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra Music Director Jeffrey Kahane serves as musical 'tour guide' for LACO's annual 'Discover' program, which this season features a special one-night-only exploration of Mozart's incomparable and deeply moving Requiem in D minor with special guests Alison King, soprano; Emily Fons, alto; Nicholas Phan, tenor; Aubrey Allicock, bass; and the Los Angeles Master Chorale, on Thursday, February 19, 2015, 8 pm, at Pasadena's Ambassador Auditorium. The evening is designed to lead patrons to a greater understanding of Mozart's musical capstone and to appreciate the work with 'new ears.' Kahane, lauded for his 'eloquence' (The New York Times), explores a different work each year for LACO's annual Discover concert. According to LA Opening Nights, 'Some conductors are born educators, and Jeffrey Kahane is one of them.' Adding a special flourish to Kahane's introduction to the work are Antaeus Company actors John Sloan (Mozart ) and JD Cullum (Salieri).

Detroit, (October 30, 2014) – The Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) will welcome Wei Yu, currently a member of the New York Philharmonic cello section, as DSO Principal Cello on Jan. 5, 2015. DSO Music Director Leonard Slatkin announced the news Wednesdayevening at a special event at New York's SubCulture celebrating his 70th birthday where Yu was in attendance. Slatkin will conduct the New York Philharmonic at Avery Fisher Hall this weekend in a program featuring Copland, Rouse and Ravel.
