SPIDEY Update: Search is on for New 'Mary Jane'

As BroadwayWorld previously reported, Evan Rachel Wood has bowed out of the financially troubled and much delayed SPIDER-MAN: Turn Off The Dark, due to an alleged 'scheduling conflict,' leaving open the role of Spider Man's love interest, Mary Jane Watson. Casting agency Telsey + Company posted notice on March 19 advertising Equity Principle auditions for the role on April 3, 2010.

Calhoun to Direct/Choreograph 9 to 5 Tour; Starts in Nashville Sept. 2010

9 to 5: The Musical will launch its first national tour September 21, 2010 at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center in Nashville. Additional tour cities include Chicago, Atlanta, Seattle, St. Louis, Tampa, Costa Mesa, Charlotte, St. Paul, Indianapolis and Dayton among others.

Celebrity vocal coach and Minnesota native Dave Barrus (Les Miserables) will join forces with MTV and Broadway star Paul Canaan (Legally Blonde) and Broadway casting director Craig Burns (Telsey + Company) to instruct, encourage and inspire Minnesota's youth to follow their Broadway Dreams.

Murney, Shindle, Adams & More Set for 'Dreams' Benefit, 11/23

Nick Adams, Paul Canaan, Jenn Colella, Blake Daniel, Jenn Gambatese, Tyler Hanes, Lauren Kennedy, Julia Murney, Matt Risch, and Kate Schindle are among the Broadway stars who will participate in the Broadway Dreams Foundation's (BDF) Holiday Benefit Concert on Monday, November 23, 2009 at 7 p.m. at the Marjorie S. Deane Little Theatre at the West Side Y. The star-studded evening of entertainment will benefit the non-profit organization which brings young talent closer to their Broadway dreams regardless of their financial status through intensive week-long Broadway training programs throughout the country.

Sonnet Repertory Theatre (SRT) has announced its scheduled line-up for 'Sonnet Sings the Bard' concert, which takes place on November 16 at the 92YTribeca. Contributing composers to this one-night-only benefit event include: Tony, Grammy, Emmy and Drama Desk Award-winning and Academy Award-nominated composers and lyricists Marc Shaiman and Scott Whittman (Hairspray, Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me, Patti LuPone on Broadway), Tony, Grammy and Emmy-nominated and Academy Award-winning composer David Shire (Baby, Closer Than Ever, Big, Saturday Night Fever), Georgia Stitt (This Ordinary Thursday: The Songs Of Georgia Stitt with Sara Ramirez, Kelli O'Hara, Faith Prince, and many more), Ray Leslee (Avenue X, Educating Rita, Standup Shakespeare), Karl Mansfield (conductor and keyboardist for Broadway's Xanadu, La Boheme, 13, Dracula, Corum Boy, Sweet Charity, and Off-Broadway's Grey Gardens, Toxic Avenger, Shafrika the White Girl and Alter Boyz), and Wade McCollum (composer and lyricist for ONE, and award-winning performance in Hedwig and the Angry Inch).

Nederlander Alliances, LLC and Pittsburgh CLO, co-producers and founding partners of The National High School Musical Theater Awards, presented the first annual Jimmy Awards in a ceremony held last night at the Skirball Center for the Performing Arts, New York University. The Jimmy Award is named in honor of legendary Broadway theater owner and producer James M. Nederlander. The award features an illustration of James M. Nederlander drawn by world renowned artist Al Hirschfeld.
