Producers Jeffrey Richards, Jerry Frankel, and Jam Theatricals just announced that Fiddler on the Roof will play The Broadway Theatre (1681 Broadway) and will begin performances on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 with an opening night scheduled for Thursday,December 17, 2015. Rehearsals are set to begin Monday, September 28, 2015. Five-time Tony Award-nominee and Drama Desk & Outer Critics Circle Award winner Danny Burstein (Cabaret, Golden Boy, Follies, South Pacific) will step into the iconic role of Tevye. Burstein will appear under the direction of Tony Award-nominated director Bartlett Sher, who was most recently nominated for a Tony Award for the current Broadway revival, The King and I. Sher has directed Burstein on Broadway in the revivals ofGolden Boy and South Pacific. Further casting and ticket on-sale date will be announced soon.
As BroadwayWorld previously reported, Decca Broadway/Universal Music Classics will release the 2015 Broadway Cast Recording of the Lincoln Center Theater production of Rodgers & Hammerstein's THE KING AND I, starring Kelli O'Hara as Anna Leonowens and Ken Watanabe as the King of Siam, available digitally June 2 and physically on June 9. The complete tracklist has been revealed, and fans of the musical might noticed that some songs (including the Act 1 Finale and Hello, Young Lovers Reprise) did not make the cut. Good News Musical Theatre Fans! BroadwayWorld.com has confirmed Lincoln Center Theater's THE KING AND I, which features a cast led by Kelli O'Hara (as Anna Leonowens) and Ken Watanabe (as the King of Siam) will receive a cast recording this summer on the the Decca Broadway / Universal Music Classics label, produced by David Lai David Caddick and Bruce Pomahac. Of note, the the production features the musical's original 1951 orchestrations by Robert Russell Bennett with dance and incidental music arranged by Trude Rittmann. Music director Ted Sperling conducts a 29-piece orchestra which will be heard on the album as well.
