The Bronx Opera will celebrate its 50th season in 2017 with two different takes on the story of William Shakespeare's lovable rogue knight, Sir John Falstaff: the rarely-performed Sir John in Love, by English composer Ralph Vaughan Williams (January 14, 15, 21, 22); and Verdi's Falstaff, the final, miraculous opera by the Italian master (April 29, 20, May 6, 7). Each production will be performed both in the Bronx, at Lehman College's Lovinger Theatre, and in Manhattan, at Hunter College's Kaye Playhouse. This will be BxO's third presentation of Sir John in Love (they gave the U.S. Premiere in 1978) and their first of Falstaff, and both operas will be performed in English.

'More than the Madness: A Memoir' is Released

About the Book: There is More than the Madness. This book gives readers a glimpse into the life of someone living with bipolar disorder. It's not a clinical book filled with facts and figures, but rather a book of humanity. 'More than the Madness' explores the many facets of Kaniecki's life, including stories of abuse, experimentation with drugs and alcohol, inpatient stays on psych wards, a night in jail, hitchhiking across America, and his time in a third world country. Through it all Kaniecki gives the reader a personal look into his life as a manic depressive. His stories are sad, shocking, and often funny as he shares his antics while at his most manic and delusional. Throughout his journey, Kaniecki also struggles with his faith in God, and 'More than the Madness' serves as a testament of one man's journey to grow closer to God while gaining a better understanding of himself. Kaniecki wrote his story to help educate others on mental illness and remove some of the stigma associated with it. It is his hope that readers will get to know the person behind the diagnosis: take away the labels and meet someone's son, friend, and husband. See that there is More Than the Madness. 'More than the Madness' is now available from Amazon. Please contact Kristi at dreamingbigpublications@outlook.com to request review copies or to receive exclusive author interviews, notice of new releases, and cover reveals. About the Author: John Kaniecki is an author and poet. His published work, which has been published in over eighty outlets, includes several poetry collections, horror books, and a science fiction anthology. He was born in Brooklyn, New York and grew up in Pompton Plains, New Jersey. Kaniecki presently lives in Montclair with his wife Sylvia and is a volunteer minister at the Church of Christ at Chancellor Avenue. About the Company: Dreaming Big Publications is a publishing company on a mission to reach more people on a global level by publishing books that educate and advocate for mental health and social justice issues. Our main focus is nonfiction - self-help, memoirs, and books written for professional mental health providers - but we publish fiction as well and enjoy anything that is a good, fun read, including fantasy and sci-fi.

BWW Review: SYLVIA Opens Up a Dog's Mind to Reveal What Makes a Truly Loving Companion

In the 1995 comedy SYLVIA by A.R. Gurney, married couple Greg (Steve Howard revisiting the role he played with Tanna in 2011) and Kate (appropriately named Beege Barkette) are empty-nesters in the big city. In the opening scene, Greg and Sylvia arrive home after meeting in the park where Sylvia, a bouncy, frisky poodle mix, literally adopted Greg. Tanna jumps up and down, running around just as a new dog inside a home would react, her nervousness and excitement leading her to smell every single inch of the place, leave a liquid deposit, and then remind her new companion over and over again how he is her God she will love and respect forever - as long as he never hits her.
