BWW Review: FREDERICK ASHTON TRIPLE BILL, Royal Opera House

After recent performances of new choreography from Crystal Pite, Wayne McGregor and Liam Scarlett, one could be forgiven for believing the Royal Ballet has dragged itself reluctantly into the 21st Century. Perhaps it's an overly emotional response, there is something wonderfully reassuring and warm in this Ashton triple bill that closes the current season. It's a return to what the Royal do best in these delicate works shine in their artistry and finesse.

It's plain to see why Jewels, Balanchine's work that marks it's half century this year, has an enduring appeal. It's a pure, glossy, glittering spectacle to be devoured and enjoyed by those viewing it. The advantage of a plotless ballet is that it allows one to sit back and absorb the beauty of the movements, costuming and staging and that's what good theatre for the masses is all about.

As the annual flagship event of the Royal Academy of Dance, the competition attracts the world's finest young dancers aged between 15 to 19 years old and culminates in a final to be judged by David McAllister, Artistic Director of The Australian Ballet, Kevin O'Hare, Director of The Royal Ballet, and Francesco Ventrigilia, Artistic Director of the Royal New Zealand Ballet.

Record Number of Entrants to Compete in Royal Academy of Dance's Prestigious Genée International Ballet Competition at Sydney Opera House in December 2016

A record number of 97 dancers from over 14 countries are set to compete in The Royal Academy of Dance's (RAD) prestigious Genée International Ballet Competition when it returns to Sydney from 7-11 December 2016. The final on 11 December will be judged by David McAllister, Artistic Director of The Australian Ballet, Kevin O'Hare, Director of The Royal Ballet, and Francesco Ventrigilia, Artistic Director of the Royal New Zealand Ballet, with Australian dancer, former Genée gold medal winner and current Principal of The Royal Ballet,Steven McRae announced as Genée 2016 Ambassador.

In this, his second exhibition of dancers to be held at the Hospital Club Gallery, world renowned dance photographer Rick Guest with long-time collaborator Olivia Pomp, explore the supreme spirit and ensuing physicality that underpins a dancer's art. With this remarkable series of portraits he seeks to strip away the external layers of costume, role and performance to reveal the character of the dancers themselves. Once exposed, we see a life of dedication, resolve and sacrifice, reflected in their eyes and carved into their bodies.

BWW Review: FALL FOR DANCE – La Compagnie Hervé Koubi, Steven McRae, Pam Tanowitz, Alvin Ailey

Always a great treasure to the city, New York City Center's Fall for Dance opened its second program with great anticipation. For an affordable price, audiences get a glimpse of the wonderful world of dance, with access to some of the field's greatest visionaries from around the globe. With a roster that included breathtaking athleticism, a comical tap solo, intriguing minimalist ballet, and an entrancing African-urban fusion, Fall for Dance's second program of 2015 did not let the audience down. There is no wonder that this is perhaps one of the hottest tickets in town!

Tickets to Go on Sale 3/22 for American Ballet Theatre's 2015 Season at the Met

American Ballet Theatre's 2015 season at the Metropolitan Opera House, May 11-July 4, will be highlighted by the New York Premiere of an all-new production of The Sleeping Beauty, a revival of Lar Lubovitch's Othello and repertory programs featuring historic works in celebration of the Company's 75th Anniversary Season. Crystal Ballet Launches GENESIS in Tokyo on July 1

Some of the brightest stars of British ballet are to join forces in a major dance initiative being launched this summer. Entitled GENESIS, this unique project is set to captivate ballet audiences everywhere and appeal to a wider digitally-aware generation. The initiative is being launched in Tokyo on 1 July when downloads will become available internationally to the general public. A European launch will take place in London in September 2013.

BWW Reviews: Ballet in Cinema from Emerging Pictures Presents 'La fille mal gardee'

It wasn't until Frederick Ashton undertook a new creation of the ballet that it finally became an international hit. He referred to it as his 'poor man's Pastorale,' a lovely reference to Beethoven's symphony where things go from simplicity to thunderstorms and back to normalcy and contentment with the world. He commissioned The Royal Opera House conductor, John Lanchberry, to orchestrate a new score that, while recalling French culture and manners (it did begin as a French ballet after all), is firmly rooted in an English sensibility
