The season is curated by Monique Martin, recently appointed Director of Programming for Harlem Stage and features artists who #Disrupt and take creative risk. The performances feature a range of artistic genres, offering audiences the chance to experience legendary performers, as well as rising stars.

'Clown Show' is a play about the struggle of two clowns to bring joy. Koko and Pipi test the patience of the theatre manager as they prepare to do their show for adults and kiddies. They worry that in the age of smartphones and texting the children won't be as responsive to live performance as they used to be. But they are determined to use their talents and skills to bring delight to the audience.
The ancient Greek tragedy Antigone is a hugely versatile piece, lending itself well to adaptations to situations far beyond its original Theban setting. In this new adaptation by James Beagon, the play is set in the near future, where Brexit has resulted in a hard border with Ireland and consequent return to sectarian violence. This is a setting that works well with the themes of rebellion, religion and family relationships of Sophocles' original text.
The Public Theater (Artistic Director, Oskar Eustis; Executive Director, Patrick Willingham) and the Onassis Foundation USA announced today six free performances of THE GOSPEL AT COLONUS, the groundbreaking re-telling of Sophocles' classic, for a limited engagement, September 4-9 at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park. With book, original lyrics, and direction by Lee Breuer and original music, adapted lyrics, and music direction by Bob Telson, the iconic musical returns to New York City for the first time since 2004 to celebrate the 35th Anniversary of the original production at the Brooklyn Academy of Music and to honor visionary director Lee Breuer for his lifetime of excellence and historic collaboration with The Public Theater.
Theater Resources Unlimited (TRU) announces Writer-Director Communications Lab on Saturday, August 11, 2018 from 10am-6pm at Studios 353, 353 W. 48th Street, Studio B (basement). Registration is $75 for TRU members ($85 for non-members), $30 for an additional collaborator (writer), and registration for TRU Member observers is $30 ($40 for non-members). Writers must be accepted before purchasing a spot.
Illustrious alumni will guest-curate this summer's 25-year anniversary edition of Ice Factory 2018, New Ohio Theatre's Obie Award-winning festival. Ice Factory 2018 will present eight new works over eight weeks, June 27 - August 18, at New Ohio Theatre, located at 154 Christopher Street between Greenwich and Washington Streets in New York City.

In his new work, Gary Beck takes aim at capitalist greed, corporate ruthlessness, and the decay of the American dream. His anger at the morality and hypocrisy of war, simmers under the surface of his poetry, the broken system it perpetuates and the abandonment of the American people by their leaders. Clear and punchy, it is not without a more thoughtful look at the struggles of Nature against man, a war of another kind. Blunt Force is one man's protest and makes for a compelling read.

Harlem Stage and Theater of War Productions today announced an unprecedented five-week FREE run of performances of Theater of War Productions' original project, Antigone in Ferguson. Opening on September 13 and kicking off Harlem Stage's 2018/2019 programming season, Antigone in Ferguson was conceived in the wake of Michael Brown's death in 2014, through a collaboration between Theater of War Productions and community members from Ferguson, MO. Translated and directed by Bryan Doerries and composed by Phil Woodmore, the project fuses a dramatic reading by leading actors of excerpts from Sophocles' Greek tragedy with live choral music performed by a choir of activists, police officers, youth, and concerned citizens from Ferguson and New York City. The performance is the catalyst for panel and audience-driven discussions on race and social justice, the core component of the event. This multifaceted production will offer a glimpse not only into the effects of the tragedy in Brown's local community, but also the trauma of police violence and racial injustice in communities of color in New York and across the nation.

On the streets of north London, Eddy, a modern-day Oedipus, dreams of a better life. After hearing a fortune teller's disturbing prediction, he resolves at all costs to avoid shagging his own mum. But sure enough he finds himself in the prophetically maternal arms of an East End café manager and the very incestuous bed he sought to avoid.
On June 25, The Resident Acting Company (www.racnyc.org), a new troupe drawn from the performing ensemble of The Pearl Theatre Company, will present a staged reading of 'The Big Night' (1928) by humorist Dawn Powell, a harsh, biting comedy about a woman whose husband has been fired from an advertising agency. The play was the author's masterpiece but failed on Broadway in a production of The Group Theatre. The version to be offered is a restoration by Michael Sexton from the author's original notes and drafts. It retains some of the Group Theatre's 'improvements' but includes the author's original ending. The reading will be at 7:00 PM at The Players Club, 16 Gramercy Park South, directed by Bradford Cover, Artistic Director of the troupe.
