OUTSTANDING CHOREOGRAPHY

For the first time in Emmy history, the award for Outstanding Choreography was awarded live during the main Emmy broadcast. To celebrate the occasion, host Neil Patrick Harris surprised the choreographers with a challenge to come up with number for the show that included all of them, as well as Neil.

The 65th Primetime Emmy Awards, hosted by HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER's Neil Patrick Harris, is telecast live coast-to-coast tonight, September 22nd (8 PM ET/5 PM PT) on CBS from the NOKIA Theater L.A. The Old Globe will open its 2013-14 Season with The Last Goodbye, a new musical that marries Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet and the incendiary songs of the legendary singer-songwriter Jeff Buckley. Conceived and adapted by Michael Kimmel, the rock musical is directed by two-time Tony Award nominee Alex Timbers (Peter and the Starcatcher, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson). Choreography is by Sonya Tayeh ('So You Think You Can Dance'), and orchestrations, music direction and arrangements are by Kris Kukul. The complete creative team and casting, as well as the remainder of the Globe's new season, will be announced at a later date. The Last Goodbye will run on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center, Sunday, Sept. 22 - Nov. 3, 2013. Preview performances run Sept. 22- Oct. 5. Opening night is Sunday, Oct. 6. Tickets are currently available by subscription only. Sonya Tayeh, an undeniable force in the dance world, recently received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Choreography for her work on Fox's 6-time Emmy-winning show, 'So You Think You Can Dance.' Sonya creates strong, jarring, aggressive and powerful choreography with an underlying sense of angst, which she attributes to her Detroit roots. Her uniqueness and loud presence has made her a favorite among the judges and fans of the hit show, now in it's 10th season.

The Old Globe presented a one-night-only Jeff Buckley Tribute Concert on August 19, and BroadwayWorld has photos of the musicians onstage below! The concert, which featured several prominent local artists covering the songs of the legendary musician, coincides with the Globe's upcoming production of The Last Goodbye, a fusion of Buckley's music with Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. The Jeff Buckley Tribute Concert, benefitting the Globe's student Shakespeare programs, took place in the outdoor Lowell Davies Festival Theatre.

Dance has long been perceived as an art entertainment for the wealthy, educated and performance trained. Terms such as 'fifth position,' 'adagio,' 'camber,' 'shag,' and 'pirouette' are foreign to most people. Dance styles such as hip hop, Tango, jazz, Samba, and Broadway may be terms that have been heard, but not known as a specific type of dance. This combination has made attending dance programs a 'no go' activity for many.

On Friday, March 22 ONE DROP partnered with MGM Resorts International and Lamborghini to present One Night for ONE DROP, a global philanthropy event to raise funds and awareness to ensure water is accessible across the globe. This was the first time all seven Cirque du Soleil resident productions closed their doors to become one for ONE DROP - the non-profit organization established by Cirque du Soleil Founder Guy Laliberte - at the 'O' Theatre at Bellagio Resort & Casino.
