Legally Blonde The Musical, after playing almost 1000 performances, will close at the Savoy Theatre tonight, Saturday 7 April 2012.

The Daily Mail UK reports that Oliver-award winning actress Sheridan Smith has pulled out of the musical version of Helen Fielding's Bridget Jones novel.

We're less than a fortnight away from the 2012 Olivier Awards, so we're looking back on previous ceremonies and winners, beginning with last year!

In a world first, the UK's Amateur Stage Magazine will present THE AMATEUR STAGE EXPO on Saturday 31st March and Sunday 1st April 2012, at the Business Design Centre in Islington, London. The Expo will bring amateur theatre groups and corporate exhibitors from all over the UK together to celebrate the vibrant and exciting amateur theatre community.

After almost 1000 West End manicures, perms and make-overs, Legally Blonde The Musical will have its final performance at the Savoy Theatre on Saturday 7 April 2012, when principal contracts end.

Entertainment industry charity 'The Make A Difference Trust' held an event at The Edge In London's Soho Square, sponsored by ‘I Am SOHO' and hosted by Heart FM's Toby Anstis, to launch their much anticipated show, ‘West End Eurovision 2012'. West End Eurovision, now in its 5th year, sees 12 West End casts, including such shows as Legally Blonde, Phantom of the Opera, War Horse and Les Miserables, produce fully costumed, choreographed versions of a past Eurovision Song Contest entry. This iconic show was nominated in the top 5 'Theatrical Events of the year 2011' category in the recent BroadwayWorld.com Awards.

Matilda the Musical, produced by the RSC and running at the Cambridge Theatre, leads the way with ten nominations - the maximum number of eligible awards for a musical this year. These notably include a collective nomination for Best Actress for all four young actresses who play the title role. Amongst other musical theatre productions Ghost The Musical at the Piccadilly Theatre and the National Theatre's London Road have five and four nominations respectively.

The nominees for this year's Olivier Awards will be announced today from 12 noon - follow it right here on BWW:UK.

Chicago Style, presents the Chicago premiere of John Bucchino and Harvey Fierstein's A Catered Affair, directed by Nick Bowling with music direction by Doug Peck, at Stage 773, 1225 W. Belmont Ave. The performance schedule is Fridays at 7:30 p.m., Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Single tickets are $38 with group and student discounts available. The production now in its third year has transformed the Savoy Theatre into a pink haven for Elle and her sorority girlfriends. Legally Blonde The Musical opened in December 2009 to rave reviews and the show went on to win seven theatre awards including the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Musical. Legally Blonde The Musical continues its tour of the UK and plans are in place for an Australian production to open in Sydney later this year.
