'MASTER HAROLD'...AND THE BOYS to Play the Wharton Center, Jan 30-31
by BWW News Desk
- Sep 10, 2014
With the metallic clink of a coin in a jukebox and the scratch of a needle on a record, the character Willie utters the conclusive words, 'Let's dream.' And so they do. Caught up in a whirlwind of post-World War II traumas and the suffocating tensions of racism in 1950s South Africa, the three actors of this masterpiece by Athol Fugard bang and clash against their fluctuating society in this tale of hope, escapism, dark secrets, and the cruel power of language - creating one of the 20th century's greatest plays. 'MASTER HAROLD'...and the boys will play at Wharton Center for Performing Arts Friday, January 30, and Saturday, January 31 in the Pasant Theatre.

by David Clarke
- Dec 11, 2013
Every year, the holiday season is marked by gooey, theatrical mind-candy confections. The syrupy and saccharine spectacles fill audiences with joy and boil pots all over town. Yet, for 2013 Main Street Theater is taking a bold risk and producing the brilliantly crafted and deeply moving Houston Premiere of A CIVIL WAR CHRISTMAS: AN AMERICAN MUSICAL CELEBRATION by Paula Vogel, with music by Daryl Waters. The play is not the light-hearted, feel-good fare audiences have come to expect; however, I defy anyone to walk away from a performance without feeling moved and permanently altered.

Journey back to turn-of-the-century America, where Scott Joplin's ragtime music fills the air with an infectious beat.
