Urban Stages (Frances Hill, Founding Artistic Director), in association with producer/director/lyricist and Director of Musical Programming Peter Napolitano, today announced the line-up for their sixth series of musical evenings entitled WINTER RHYTHMS 2014, beginning Tuesday, December 2nd and continuing through Sunday, December 14th at Urban Stages Theatre (259 West 30th Street, just East of 8th Avenue).

Cabaret performers thinking about launching duo shows could certainly take a lesson in chemistry from watching and listening to singer Karen Oberlin and guitarist Sean Harkness in their current show, A Wish, which is based on their superb recently released CD of the same title, launched with two shows at Kitano on February 1 (to celebrate the CD release), and has taken up a once a month residency until late August at the Metropolitan Room (the next show is on June 25 at 9:30 pm). While theirs is not a romantic off-stage chemistry (both are happily quite happily married, thank you), on stage and in the recording studio Oberlin and Harkness have concocted a delicious musical interaction that conjures up romance to the nth degree.

Jon Weber one of the most prominent music directors in New York cabaret performed his one man show at the Metropolitan Room last night. The acclaimed Milwaukee born Jazz pianist and composer lectured and played a program which demonstrated how jazz piano evolved over the last 115 years. From Scott Joplin to Keith Jarrett Mr. Weber recreated the sounds and styles of the various pianists and showed how they influenced piano jazz over the years. Jon is the host of Piano Jazz with Jon Weber on National Public Radio and his recent album titled Simple Complex features his own compositions.
Things Unsaid is an evening of three one-act plays revolving around the theme of words that have been left unspoken--the landlord who cannot bring himself to tell his tenant he loves her, the mother who returns from the dead to finish her conversation with her son, the couple whose fury finally releases after decades of things not spoken.
54 BELOW, Broadway's Supper Club, presents Susan Egan in her critically-acclaimed, one-woman show, "Susan Egan: The Belle of Broadway" on April 15 at 9:30pm (SOLD OUT) and (added by popular demand) April 18 at 11:00pm. Egan's 54 Below debut reunites her with audiences at the infamous Studio 54, where she portrayed "Sally Bowles" in Cabaret longer than any other actress during the previous revival, winning critical raves from every major New York publication. Her appearance also coincides with the 20th anniversary of her Broadway debut in "Beauty and the Beast," (4/18/1994) for which she was nominated for both Tony and Drama Desk Awards as "Best Actress." Throughout the evening, Susan takes you on a journey from Belle to beyond, with hilarious personal anecdotes and magnificent music by classic Broadway composers as well as songs from today's hottest new writers. Susan has performed her concert throughout North and South America and will be launching a new tour with LML Music Presents in association with Live On Stage out of Nashville starting in fall of 2014.
Broadway songstress Sally Wilfert returned to 54 Below with a brand spanking new evening of music- featuring classic melodies and newer works, all seamlessly blended into the perfect, tuneful Wilfert casserole. One of New York's most dynamic voices, audiences have embraced Sally in everything from Broadway's Assassins to her acclaimed off-Broadway appearances in Make Me a Song and See Rock City, among others. Manhattan Association of Cabarets and Clubs (MAC), dedicated to advancing the art and business of live entertainment, held their 28th Annual MAC Awards celebration last evening at BB King's Blues club in Times Square. Winners in twenty-five categories were announced. The show was hosted by the vivacious singer, band leader, multiple MAC Award winner and 2014 Nominee, Terese Genecco. The gala was produced by Julie Miller and directed by Lennie Watts, the current MAC President. Don Rebic served as Musical Director.
