Monday May 21, 2012 marks the third production of BC Beat at Cielo (18 Little West 12thStreet). Produced by Jennifer Jancuska and The BringAbout Productions, BC Beat offers the Broadway and dance communities another unique and exciting way to experience dance. Focused on storytelling and set in a club with the best sound system in NYC, BC Beat will feature new work by eight highly anticipated choreographers from genres including musical theatre, contemporary, jazz and tap. Smack in the middle of the club, with the audience surrounding the sunken stage and close enough to touch the dancers, choreographers will present their unique way of storytelling and vision for Broadway's future.

Rhythmic Circus will astound audiences with their innovative tap dancing and musical prowess, leaving everyone dancing in the aisles! Catch this dance phenomenon tonight, May 12 at 8pm at The Colonial Theatre. Rhythmic Circus will be followed by an after party with DJ BFG and projections by Drew Suto.

INDIA JAZZ SUITES performs in Three Stages tonight, May 11 at 8 pm. This show is a brilliant collaboration between Pandit Chitresh Das, one of the world's foremost masters of the of the barefoot, bell-bedecked North Indian dance called Kathak, and Emmy award-winning Jason Samuels Smith --one of the world's fastest tap dancers.

The Broadway at Birdland concert series welcomes Ty Stephens & SoulJaazz to the stage tonight, May 7 at 7pm.

RHYTHM OF THE NIGHT is the third installment of Upright Cabaret's "American Icon" Series and will star Olivier Award-Winner Lesli Margherita, Lexi Lawson (Rent, In The Heights)) and Rogelio Douglas Jr. (In The Heights, The Little Mermaid)). I had the chance to chat for a few minutes with Rogelio Douglas Jr. He was NOT at a loss for words!! Here are a few highlights from that interview.

After raising L.A.'s cultural pulse with new productions attracting critical acclaim, The Eli & Edythe Broad Stage at the Santa Monica College Performing Arts Center had unveiled its vision for the future and announced its 5th Anniversary Season beginning on September 1, 2012 with the Brazilian jazz singer Luciana Souza. Following its acclaimed, sold-out run earlier this season as part of Theater for the New City's Dream Up Festival, playwright Brandt Johnson's JUST SEX returned to Theater for the New City (155 First Avenue) for a limited Off-Broadway engagement and closes tonight, April 15. Alex Kilgore (founding Artistic Director of stageFARM - OLIVER PARKER!, THE GINGERBREAD HOUSE, VENGEANCE) directed.

The Broadway at Birdland concert series today announced that Ty Stephens & SoulJaazz will be returning to the stage on Monday, May 7 at 7pm.

The Howard Theatre, the historic arts landmark that launched the careers of Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Marvin Gaye and The Supremes, announces their grand re-opening after a $29 million renovation and a 32-year hiatus. The Howard Theatre will re-open the week of April 9 with an opening lineup that includes Wale, Wanda Sykes, The Roots, Robert Randolph, Taj Mahal, Yasiin Bey (aka Mos Def), Meshell Ndegeocello, Bad Brains, Chuck Brown, Chuck Berry, Esperanza Spalding and a weekly Sunday Brunch featuring the Harlem Gospel Choir. World renowned dance company Ailey II returns to the Emelin Theatre with on Saturday April 13 at 8pm. After a wildly successful sold-out performance in May 2010 at the Emelin Theatre, the Ailey II dance company will 'once again delight audiences with some of the best young dance talent performing works by three outstanding emerging choreographers.'

Rehearsals have begun at Milton High School for their production of THE DROWSY CHAPERONE. This show will perform March 14-17, directed by Renee Denney and music directed by Leigh Ann Shaw. The cast is full of experienced high schoolers, some of whom also appeared in Milton's successful production of HAIRSPRAY in spring 2011. It will feature choreography by the Off-Broadway choreographer and acclaimed tap dancer Jen MacQueen, who choreographed the recent Atlanta production of A Chorus Line at Aurora Theatre, for which she received a BroadwayWorld (Atlanta) Award Nomination for Best Choreography in a Musical.

The Fox Cities Performing Arts Center revealed its 2012/13 10th Anniversary Season schedule which includes performances by local arts groups, signature cultural shows and Broadway hits including War Horse and a return engagement of Disney's The Lion King.
