BWW Review: Gold Dust Orphans Wish You A LITTLE ORPHAN TRANNY CHRISTMAS

Ryan Landry taps into political and cultural hot topics for the Gold Dust Orphans' new holiday extravaganza. Everyone's favorite villainess Mrs. Grinchley returns, but she has competition from Whitey Bulger and Donald Trump for the most evil character in A LITTLE ORPHAN TRANNY CHRISTMAS. The mash-up of ANNIE and GREY GARDENS is ripe for hysterical situations, great singing and dancing, and the usual caution about leaving the children at home.

BWW Review: Zeitgeist Stage Strikes Up the Band with Gusto

Artistic Director David J. Miller tackles another iconic play from the catalogue of 20th century gay dramatic literature with Mart Crowley's groundbreaking THE BOYS IN THE BAND. Opening in 1968, one year before the Stonewall riots, these boys were at the head of the parade for the Gay Pride movement. Miller has gathered a roster of nine estimable actors who provide the heart and soul to bring Crowley's types realistically to life at the intimate Plaza Black Box Theatre at the Boston Center for the Arts.

BWW Reviews: THOROUGHLY MUSLIM MILLIE Thoroughly Mirthful

Ryan Landry and the Gold Dust Orphans mash-up THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE, THE SOUND OF MUSIC, and the politics of oil and the Middle East in their latest side-splitting musical, THOROUGHLY MUSLIM MILLIE. Scott Martino's to-die-for costumes and scenic design aesthetic are on display, along with a cast made up of long-time favorites and fresh talent, singing and dancing to a batch of borrowed musical theater gems. BWW Reviews: JESUS CHRIST, IT'S CHRISTMAS!

Ho, ho, ho and Hallelujah! The Gold Dust Orphans are back in Boston with an all-new holiday joyride, exclaiming JESUS CHRIST, IT'S CHRISTMAS! Based on the 1947 classic film THE BISHOP'S WIFE, Ryan Landry's sendup of the romantic comedy is overflowing with winking biblical references and musical numbers that make the season merry. Put tickets for this in your stocking, but do not bring the kids!

After their smash, sold-out, critically-acclaimed New York debut last season with Mildred Fierce - hailed as "blissfully over the top" in a rave review from The New York Times - the company returns with another filthy, flirty, fabulous parody. BWW Review: The 2014 Elliot Norton 32nd Anniversary Awards

The Boston Theater Critics' Association hosted the 32nd anniversary presentation of the Elliot Norton Awards last night at the Wheelock Family Theatre. Barely before people were in their seats, the tap dancing ensemble of Stoneham Theatre's THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE, led by Ephie Aardema, shuffled, ball changed, and kicked off the festivities. An enthusiastic Joyce Kulhawik, President of the BTCA, took the podium as Master of Ceremonies to introduce a parade of fellow critics and past winners as presenters, as well as two more nominated musical performances later in the program.

BWW Review: Boston Theater Top to Bottom

There's something beautifully poetic in juxtaposing two current offerings by small theater companies in Boston. Bad Habit Productions celebrates ambitious women in Caryl Churchill's TOP GIRLS at the Boston Center for the Arts, while Ryan Landry and the Gold Dust Orphans are light years removed from Walt Disney in SNOW WHITE AND THE 7 BOTTOMS at Machine Nightclub in the shadow of Fenway Park.
