On September 16th, 2016 Masterworks Broadway released the World Premiere Recording of the award winning new hit Polkadots: The Cool Kids Musical. Written by Douglas Lyons, Melvin Tunstall, III and Greg Borowsky, Polkadots is a new musical inspired by the true events of the Civil Rights pioneers Ruby Bridges and The Little Rock Nine.

Today, the National Civil Rights Museum announced recipients of The Freedom Award, the museum's signature event that honors outstanding individuals for their significant contributions to civil and human rights. This year's honorees are Benjamin Crump, civil rights attorney; Tawakkol Karman, Yemeni human rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate; The Honorable Damon Jerome Keith, longest serving judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit Court; Soledad O'Brien, journalist and executive producer; and Bryan Stevenson, attorney and social justice activist.

OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network announced today a month-long celebration in January honoring civil rights legends who paved the way as we approach the 50th anniversary of the historic Selma to Montgomery marches led by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. that changed the trajectory of America forever.

Bestselling children's author Sandy Eisenberg Sasso tells the story of Anne Frank and her sister Margot and their time in hiding from Nazis in the Secret Annex. By narrating the story from the perspective of the tree outside the Annex window, Sasso offers an age-appropriate way to open a conversation with even young children about hate and persecution. I wanted little ones to find hope in the possibilities of new beginnings without being afraid,' Sasso, winner of the National Jewish Book Award, explains.

Southern Rep has announced that it will accept submissions for The Ruby Prize, effective immediately. The $10,000 annual award is named in honor of Ruby Bridges, who showed incredible perseverance in the face of formidable obstacles. The Ruby Prize seeks to support women playwrights of color whose work expands the reach of American theatre in the face of formidable obstacles.

Southern Rep has announced that it will host its annual WORK HARD PLAY HARD from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm June 23rd, 2014 at Il Posto (4607 Dryades Street). WORK HARD PLAY HARD will feature live music, an all-you-can-eat buffet, an open bar, and a silent auction/raffle of donated items and services from local artists and businesses, with all proceeds benefitting the job creation, professional development and artistic empowerment efforts that are part of Southern Rep's 'New Play Development' mission: 6x6, and 3x3: THE ONE ACTS. Tickets are $10 at the door.

The Brooklyn Museum will present a variety of public programs for adults, teens, and kids in June. Public programs include talks, late night events, performances, screenings, and hands-on workshops for children and adults that amplify the Museum's exhibitions and permanent collection, serve its diverse public, and support learning through the visual arts.

In response to overwhelming public demand and positive critical reception, Southern Rep is extending the run for its current production, Tennessee Williams' THE NIGHT OF THE IGUANA at The Art Klub on 527 Elysian Fields Avenue, through April 13, 2014. Originally slated to close April 6, the extension will add an additional four performances to THE NIGHT OF THE IGUANA's schedule. The show times for the new performances are Thursday - Saturday at 7:30 pm, and a Sunday Matinee at 2:00 pm.

Southern Rep and the Tennessee Williams/New Orleans Literary Festival are pleased to announce that they will partner to bring the multi-faceted annual festival THE NEW PLAY BACCHANAL to New Orleans, January 10 - 12, 2014.
