(Los Angeles) December 17, 2014 — The debate over immigration reform takes center stage in ¡Figaro! (90210), a contemporary adaptation of Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro, presented by LA Opera in its world premiere staging at the Barnsdall Gallery Theatre from January 16 through 18. Showcasing Mozart's score with an entirely new English (and Spanglish) libretto by Vid Guerrerio, ¡Figaro! (90210) recasts the title character and his fiancée as undocumented Mexican workers in the present-day Beverly Hills mansion iof a real estate mogul and his actress wife.

Jobsite kicks off the new year with one of the Bard's best-loved comedies, a hilarious tale of mistaken identities, lovesickness and ribald revelry. William Shakespeare's Twelfth Night plays Jan. 8 - Feb. 1, 2015, in the Shimberg Playhouse at the Straz Center where Jobsite is resident theater company.
Entering its 31st year, Austin Shakespeare (professional, Actor's Equity) will present one of the first Black actors in the region to play the title role in the romantic adventure, Edmund Rostand's Cyrano de Bergerac, translated by Brian Hooker.

Plácido Domingo, General Director of LA Opera, has announced updated details about the company's upcoming Figaro Unbound celebration, which explores the lasting legacy of French playwright Pierre Beaumarchais and the influential protagonist of three of his stage comedies: Figaro, the wily barber from Seville. LA Opera's programming of three operas based on the Figaro plays—The Barber of Sevilleby Rossini, The Marriage of Figaro by Mozart and the west coast premiere of The Ghosts of Versailles by John Corigliano, all conducted by LA Opera Music Director James Conlon—is the inspiration for Figaro Unbound, a three-month citywide celebration of the revolutionary spirit.
