Following a whirlwind week in May auditioning talent from Pittsburgh and New York City, Front Porch Theatricals and Carrnivale Theatrics announce their cast for their upcoming production of In the Heights. The cast of 25 hail from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, New York, Florida, Ohio, Indiana and Pennsylvania, and includes eleven ensemble members and five principals who have roots in Pittsburgh (including nine students from Point Park University and five from Carnegie Mellon University).
Today we are talking a phenomenally talented performer known for his decades treading the boards in a number of featured and lead roles, most recently wowing crowds with his turn as one of the title characters in THE GERSHWINS' PORGY & BESS - the engaging and golden-voiced Norm Lewis. Discussing many of his most celebrated roles as well as some more obscure, Lewis paints a vivid picture of his career trajectory thus far and shares compelling and candid stories of working on productions as varied and diverse as the original Broadway versions of THE WHO'S TOMMY, SIDE SHOW, THE WILD PARTY, AMOUR, THE LITTLE MERMAID and SONDHEIM ON SONDHEIM as well as his sensational work regionally in projects such as his recent essaying of Javert in LES MISERABLES at The Muny (to say nothing of the 25th Anniversary live at the 02) as well as turns in SWEENEY TODD and THE WIZARD & I: THE MUSIC OF STEPHEN SCHWARTZ among many others. The Public Theater's new musical LOVE'S LABOUR'S LOST, the second show of The Public's 2013 free Shakespeare in the Park season at the Delacorte, officially opens tonight. Directed by Alex Timbers, LOVE'S LABOUR'S LOST will feature songs by Michael Friedman with book adaptation by Timbers and will run through Sunday, August 18.
Theater for a New Generation will present 'Freefall' by the highly celebrated Chicago playwright Charles Smith, directed by Mel Williams, at The Drilling Company Theatre, 238 West 78th Street, September 11 to 28. The play is a drama of two brothers who grew up in inner-city Chicago and have followed divergent paths into adulthood: one as a thief, the other as a policeman.
Austin Playhouse will open its 2013-14 season with Man of La Mancha next month, beginning September 6. The production will run through October 6, 2013, and play Thursday-Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 5 p.m.
