MAMMA MIA! Film Propels Universal Pictures to Studio's Biggest Year Ever

Universal Pictures recorded its biggest year ever for the second year in a row with global theatrical grosses totaling $2.834 billion for 2008. Universal's domestic box-office tally of $1.12 billion outpaced the record it previously set in 2007, which was $1.099 billion.

Rubicon Theatre Company continues its 'Brave New World' Season with Edward Albee's most intoxicated and haunting play, WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF? The play will begin previews Thursday, January 29, open on Saturday, January 31 at 7pm and run through Sunday, February 22, 2009 at the Rubicon Theatre, 1006 E. Main Street in Ventura.

Producer Howard Panter for Ambassador Theatre Group and co-producers Tulchin/Bartner/Jenkins, Bill Kenwright, Northwater Entertainment, Darren Bagert, and Tom Gregory announced the complete cast and design team for the new Broadway production of the greatest musical comedy GUYS AND DOLLS. The first joint Broadway project by two-time Tony Award winning director Des McAnuff and choreographer Sergio Trujillo since their collaboration on the Tony Award winning musical Jersey Boys, GUYS AND DOLLS will begin previews on February 3, 2009 at Broadway's newly refurbished Nederlander Theatre (208 West 41st Street). Opening Night is March 1, 2009.

Frost/Nixon Character Card #6 Oliver Platt as Bob Zelnick

Oliver Platt was brought on board to play seasoned journalist Bob Zelnick. A former national bureau chief for NPR, Zelnick was placed in charge of researching Nixon's domestic and foreign policy for the Frost team. A virtual encyclopedia of Nixon knowledge, Zelnick played Nixon in the team's rehearsals for the interviews.

Frost/Nixon Character Card #2 Kevin Bacon as Lt. Col. Jack Brennan

Kevin Bacon portrays retired military officer (and Nixon's chief of staff after the president left office) Lt. Col. Jack Brennan. As Nixon's negotiator in setting up the terms and ground rules for the interviews, Brennan was a bulldog.

Broadway Based GOLDEN GLOBE Nominee Reactions to Variety

The 66th Annual Golden Globe Award Nominations were announced today and several of the nominees have graced the Broadway stage many times, a few of them are currently threading the boards right now, Variety spoke to them to get their reactions, here are the latest, we'll update as new statements arrive.

'MILK', 'BUTTON' Nominated For 8 Critics Choice Awards

'Milk' and 'The Curious Case of Benjamin Button' were both nominated for eight Critics Choice Awards. Both were among the 10 films nominated for best picture. 'Milk,' was also nominated for lead actor Sean Penn, supporting co-stars James Franco and James Brolin and director Gus Van Sant. 'The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,' which opens Christmas Day, has Brad Pitt nominated for best actor, supporting nominations for Cate Blanchett and Taraji P. Henson.

Liberation Entertainment To Distribute Interview Between David Frost and Richard Nixon on DVD

Liberation Entertainment has concluded a deal with Sir David Frost and his production company, David Paradine Television Inc, to secure the North American distribution rights to the entire broadcast footage of the historical Frost Nixon TV interviews from 1977. These interviews drew the largest audience ever for a news interview in the history of television.

The International Press Academy has announced the nominees for the 13th Annual Satellite Awards. The Satellite Awards are an annual award given by the International Press Academy. The awards were originally known as the Golden Satellite Awards. The awards, given by the Intl. Press Academy, will take place Dec. 14 at Century City's InterContinental Hotel.

Oscar-winning director Ron Howard brings to the screen writer Peter Morgan's (The Queen, The Last King of Scotland) electrifying battle between Richard Nixon, the disgraced president with a legacy to save, and David Frost, a jet-setting television personality with a name to make, in the untold story of the historic encounter that changed both: Frost/Nixon. Reprising their roles from Morgan's stageplay are Frank Langella, who won a Tony for his portrayal of Nixon, and Michael Sheen, who fully inhabited the part of Frost onstage in London and New York. The film opens in selected cities 12/5 and 12/12 with a nationwide release on Christmas Day.

FROST/NIXON's Morgan Penned Script, HEREAFTER Eyed by Eastwood

Variety has announced that Clint Eastwood is in talks with DreamWorks to direct the supernatural thriller Hereafter for the company led by Steven Spielberg and Stacey Snider. The script is by Frost/Nixon scribe Peter Morgan.

Haydn Gwynne, who created the role on stage in London of Billy Elliot's dance teacher Mrs Wilkinson, made her Broadway debut and playing the title role of Billy Elliot was 13 year old Trent Kowalik from New York.
