Ringo Starr to Unveil Self Portraits at Soho Contemporary Art, 6/19

Ringo Starr, who is currently on tour with his All Starr Band, is also bringing his artwork to New York City. What started merely as a diversion to pass the time, has since developed into an iconic collection of artwork. This year Ringo has created a unique set of 'self portraits' that truly showcases his evolution as a visual artist. He has created art over the past few years for Knot For Violence, Imagine World Peace, WaterAid, and Timberland boots, as well as an original design for the Hard Rock Signature Series T-Shirt. Ringo's new artwork will feature 'Self Portraits' from his early days to present day, as well as a new series of Peace Signs, all depicted in his bright and colorful palette. As always, Ringo's proceeds will benefit the Lotus US Foundation Charity, which funds, supports, participates in, and promotes charitable projects aimed at advancing social welfare in diverse areas. Ocean Galleries will host the exhibition featuring Ringo's artwork in the Stone Harbor gallery location beginning Friday, June 13 through Sunday, June 15, 2014. Anyone who acquires Ringo's artwork throughout the exhibition run will have the opportunity to meet and have a photo taken with the legendary artist at a private reception on Saturday, June 21 prior to the All Starr Band's performance at Caesars in Atlantic City. West Johnson High's THE WIZARD OF OZ Tops 2014 Triangle Rising Star Awards; DPAC Announces Winners!

Along with Theatre in the Park, Playmakers Repertory Company and ABC 11, DPAC hosted this year's Triangle Rising Star Awards onstage on Sunday evening, June 2. The Triangle Rising Star Awards (TRS) is a program that brings together area high school musical theater students to perform together and compete against one another for educational scholarships. Last year's winners, Sam Hamashima and Anna Higginson, presented the awards for Best Actress and Best Actor, while awards were also given for Best Ensemble and Best Musical.

Due to resounding praise from critics and an enthusiastic reception from audiences, Berkeley Repertory Theatre announces that Brian Copeland's 10th anniversary presentation of Not a Genuine Black Man will extend for a month. The critically acclaimed show recounts Copeland's compelling and moving story of growing up black in the 1970s in San Leandro, California, a city once nationally known as one of the most racist in America. With wit and heartfelt passion, he explores the themes of racial identity and, ultimately, belonging. Directed and developed in part by David Ford, Not a Genuine Black Man will now run through June 28 for an additional eight performances at the Theatre's Osher Studio.
