A Theatre Lover's Guide to DC/Capital Area Theatres - November Offerings

The fall temperatures may be getting colder, but the DC area theatre scene is heating up with many musicals, including a new "intimate" production of a 1927 American classic, a Tony-Award Winning family saga, and so many choices - well - take a look for yourself at what this diverse theatre community has to offer in November. This is a great time to celebrate the upcoming holidays with your family, so bring the kids, grandparents, nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles and cousins to see that Orphan girl and her dog, a Disney heroine, and enjoy an early Christmas, and many more shows to bring in the cheer and joy of the holiday season. We have so much to be thankful for this month, so come to our nation's capital and celebrate the joy of theatre with us!

Review - A Steady Rain & Let Me Down Easy

If you take a whiff of air somewhere in the vicinity of the Schoenfeld Theatre these days and sense a slight essence of Mickey Spillane, it's undoubtedly due to the presence of Keith Huff's hardboiled police melodrama, A Steady Rain. A crackling good story told with potent language and a couple of terrific performances, this is a hearty plateful of good old fashioned meat and potatoes theatre.

Puerto Rico: SENSEDANCE's IMPENDING VISIT Gets World Premiere in San Juan Festival, 10/31; Honors Henning Rubsam

The world premiere of 'Impending Visit' will be at the Fiesta Iberoamericana de las Artes at the Tapia Theater in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico on Saturday, October 31, 2009. The festival honors choreographer Henning Rubsam for his long-time commitment to contemporary music. Rübsam's new creation 'Impending Visit' features the work of Puerto Rican composer Rafael Aponte-Ledee.

Monty Python Announces Ruby Jubilee At Royal Albert Hall 10/23, New Book Published & More As Part Of 40th Anniversary

Monty Python will celebrate its Ruby Jubilee later this year on stage, in print and on television in London, Hollywood and in New York. As well as performances of An Evening with Without Monty Python at the Ricardo Montalbán Theatre (23 September - 4 October) and at the Town Hall New York (6 - 10 October), the publication of a new book, Monty Python Live! and a new 6 part documentary series - Monty Python: Almost the Truth (The Lawyer's Cut) scheduled for transmission on October, London will host, for one night only on Friday 23 October 2009, the European premiere of Eric Idle and John Du Prez's Not The Messiah at the Royal Albert Hall.

THE MAGIC OFRENDA Runs 10/19-11/10 At The Apollo Theatre

Ofrenda Productions and Producer/Director Ricardo Guiterrez present the return engagement of The Magic Ofrenda, October 19 and 20 and November 2, 9 and 10, 2009, at The Apollo Theatre. Show times are 9:30 and 11am.

NYMF Continues ASCAP Foundation Education Series 10/8 & 10/15

The New York Musical Theatre Festival continues its partnership with ASCAP to present the its annual Educational Series at Barnes and Noble Booksellers at Lincoln Triangle, 1972 Broadway at 66th Street. The remaining two educational seminars are FREE with seating based on space and availability.

Steppenwolf for Young Adults launches its 2009-2010 season with Mango Street by Tanya Saracho, based on the novel The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros and directed by Hallie Gordon. The production, featuring Belinda Cervantes, Gina Cornejo, Sandra Delgado, Liza Fernandez, Ricardo Gutierrez, Christina Nieves, Tony Sancho and Mari Stratton runs October 13 - November 1, 2009 in the Steppenwolf Upstairs Theatre, 1650 N. Halsted St. Weekday matinees (Tuesdays - Fridays) are reserved for school groups, with all additional performances available to the public.
