Native Chicago playwright Alan Gross teams up with director Steven Robman to bring his newest work, High Holidays, to Goodman Theatre. At the center of this four-character drama-inspired by Gross' own life and family experience-is young Billy Roman (Max Zuppa) and the anxiety-riddled preparations for his Bar Mitzvah in 1963 north suburban Chicago.

Chicago Shakespeare opens three shows in the month of January reflecting the Theater's diverse programming. Artistic Director Barbara Gaines stages Macbeth in the Courtyard Theater, January 2-March 8, 2009; CST's World's Stage international program initiative, presents a company from Rwanda performing The Investigation in the Theater Upstairs at Chicago Shakespeare, January 21-31, 2009; and CST welcomes families to the theater with an abridged production of one of Shakespeare's most popular comedies, Short Shakespeare! A Midsummer Night's Dream, January 24-March 7, 2009, on Saturdays in the Courtyard Theater.

For many years the theater community wondered why Tony Award wining actress Patti LuPone had never been cast as Mama Rose in the various revivals of the legendary musical GYPSY...Finally, the part and the actress were brought together at Ravinia's Music Festival and the results surpassed expectations

Legendary composer/lyricist Stephen Sondheim will no longer appear before the Ravinia Festival in Chicago's August 11th performance of Gypsy, starring Tony Award-winner Patti LuPone as Rose.
