Netflix has announced the cast of upcoming limited series Central Park Five, created by Academy Award Nominee Ava DuVernay. DuVernay will also write and direct the narrative series which will be four episodes in length.
The historic case of CENTRAL PARK FIVE will be brought to life in a new dramatic limited series for Netflix created by Ava DuVernay, who will also write and direct.
Several members of 'The Central Park Five,' the group of five young black and Latino youths falsely arrested and convicted in 1989 for the brutal beating and rape of a white woman in Central Park, attended the February 7 performance of The Bullpen, the one-man, 18-character comedy written and performed by Joe Assadourian, (now playing through March 21) at The Playroom Theater (151 West 46th Street - just east of Broadway). Raymond Santana, Kevin Richardson and Yusef Salam, three of the five members, participated in a talkback following the performance to talk about their cases, re-entry and life inside the prison system. On Wednesday, December 4, 2013, Youth Communication (YC), the award-winning nonprofit publisher and advocate of reading and writing, will present Listen v. Lock-Up: Unheard Stories from Teens in Trouble. This unique and powerful one-night-only theatrical event features the voices of one of New York City's most marginalized groups: teens who have been through the justice system. The performance will take place at Morgan Stanley and will benefit Youth Communication's literacy and youth development programs.
