On Wednesday, March 26, 2014, two longtime friends - violinist Hyeyung Julie Yoon and pianist Soyeon Kate Lee - will present an unforgettable evening of chamber music at the new downtown venue SubCulture (45 Bleecker Street, downstairs). The concert features the New York premiere of composer Robert Sirota's Pange Lingua Sonata, written for Yoon and Lee in 2012, and Bach's Sonata in C Minor. Cellist Gregory Beaver joins the ensemble for Brahms' Piano Trio in C Major; Soyeon Kate Lee will also perform 'Agitato/Calmo' and 'Tender Rage' from Robert Sirota's Mixed Emotions for solo piano.

The Manhattan Choral Ensemble (MCE) will present an imaginative program titled Requiem in Stone under the baton of guest conductor Andrew Megill. The concert will include early Baroque masterworks by Heinrich Sch'tz and Johann Hermann Schein and a new piece commissioned by the MCE from Caleb Burhans'works that render the subjects of spirituality, grief and death in exquisite detail.

Piffaro, The Renaissance Band is honored to be selected to represent the Renaissance in Deutsche Grammophon's massive new 'History of Classical Music' box set. Piffaro's debut recording for DG's Archiv label, 1995's Canzoni e Danze: Wind Music from Renaissance Italy, is the third in a 100-disc series that spans Gregorian chant to Philip Glass and recording artists from Trevor Pinnock and The English Concert to Daniel Barenboim and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra to Pierre Boulez and his Ensemble Intercontemporain.

Johannes Moser to Replace Truls Mork as Soloist with The Philadelphia Orchestra, 2/21

Carnegie Hall today announced that cellist Johannes Moser has graciously agreed to step in for Truls Mork as soloist in Shostakovich's Cello Concerto No. 1 in E-flat Major, Op. 107, with The Philadelphia Orchestra and Music Director Yannick Nezet-Seguin in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage next Friday, February 21 at 8:00 p.m. Mr. Mork has withdrawn from this appearance due to an injury to his shoulder as a result of a skiing accident; he is expected to make a full recovery in the coming weeks. The remainder of the orchestra's program-to include Richard Strauss's Metamorphosen: A Study for 23 Strings and Beethoven's Symphony No. 3, 'Eroica'-remains the same. This concert marks Mr. Moser's Carnegie Hall debut.

Ukranian-born piano sensation Valentina Lisitsa - heralded for performances of 'unexpected depth' (Baltimore Sun) and one of the world's most watched classical musicians with more than 62 million YouTube views - makes her American Youth Symphony (AYS) debut to perform Rachmaninoff's scintillating Rhapsody on a Theme by Paganini at the orchestra's 'Springtime in Paris Gala,' which includes a free concert on Sunday, March 9, 2013, 6 pm, at UCLA's Royce Hall, followed at 8 pm by an optional fundraising soiree and bistro dinner to benefit AYS. Music Director Alexander Treger, currently in his 16th season leading AYS, also conducts Gershwin's beloved An American in Paris, Adam Schoenberg's Up!, an uplifting fanfare commissioned by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and debuted in 2010, and Ravel's brooding but captivating La Valse. The 106-member American Youth Symphony, noted for its innovative programming and inspiring performances, is attending the post-concert gala as well.

On Sunday, February 9 at 3:00pm, The Greenwich Village Orchestra, led by Metropolitan Opera conductor Pierre Vallet, will perform a concert to include excerpts form Berlioz's The Damnation of Faust, Ravel's Sheherazade with Grammy Award-wining mezzo-soprano Sasha Cook, and Brahms' Symphony No. 4. Now in its 27th season, the ensemble performs at Washington Irving Auditorium (40 Irving Place) near Union Square.

Pierre Boulez has been chosen to receive the eighteenth annual Cleveland Orchestra Distinguished Service Award, honoring a person or organization that has provided continuing exemplary service to the Musical Arts Association. The honor is awarded by Dennis W. LaBarre, President of the Board of Trustees of the Musical Arts Association, the parent organization of The Cleveland Orchestra, Severance Hall, and Blossom Music Center, on behalf of a committee made up of Orchestra Trustees, musicians, and staff.

Rachel Rosenthal Company's INSTANT FAIR TALES Adds 2/8-9 Shows

The Rachel Rosenthal Company (RRC) presents Instant Fairy Tales, a brand new series of original fairy tales for the 21st century at Espace DbD in Los Angeles. Instant Fairy Tales: The Longest Winter, the series' inaugural offering, which features an allegorical tale about learning to care for the environment, will be held on Saturdays, January 25 and February 8, as well as Sundays, January 26 and February 9, 2014. The performances, by Rachel Rosenthal Company's TOHUBOHU! Extreme Theatre Ensemble, begin at 4:00pm and 7:00pm on Saturdays, as well as at 2:00pm and 5:00pm on Sundays. Instant Fairy Tales are particularly well suited for children and families. Seating in the intimate performance space is limited to 35 patrons per show. Tickets cost $5. Riccardo Muti, the preeminent conductor and the music director of the world-renowned Chicago Symphony Orchestra, returns to Chicago in late January for two weeks of CSO subscription programs. Concerts with Maestro Muti begin on Thursday, January 30 at 8 p.m. and continue on January 31 and February 1. This program—on which Muti and the CSO are joined by cellist Yo-Yo Ma and composer and cellist Giovanni Sollima—includes Schubert's Symphonies No. 3 and 4 along with the world premiere of a commissioned work for two cellos and orchestra by Giovanni Sollima. Maestro Muti's association with Sollima goes back over a decade, and includes previous performances together, as well as two prior world premieres: from Teatro alla Scala, which resulted in Sollima's Tempesta e Ritratti, premiered by Maestro Muti in 2001, and from Ravenna, for which Sollima composedPassiuni, premiered by Muti and the Cherubini Orchestra in 2008.
