James Lapine's MRS. MILLER DOES HER THING Premieres Tonight at D.C.'s Signature Theatre

Signature Theatre's world premiere production of Mrs. Miller Does Her Thing, written and directed by Pulitzer Prize winner James Lapine (Sunday in the Park with George, Into the Woods), based on the real-life story of Elva Miller, a middle-aged housewife who gained notoriety as an unlikely pop phenomenon in the 1960s for her warbling renditions of chart topping hits 'Downtown,' 'Monday, Monday,' 'A Hard Day's Night,' and more, runs tonight, February 28, through March 26 in Signature Theatre's MAX Theatre.

Seurat's Circus Sideshow: One Painting With A Sideshow Of Its Own At The MET

One painting does not make an exhibit.  With the help of 50 other institutions and collectors from around the world  the MET has assembled a host of preparatory drawings, paintings by peers including Paul Signac, an early work by Pablo Picasso and some Honore Daumier's, as well as vintage posters and film footage enriching the allure in an attempt to spell out and reveal  the themes addressed in the Circus Sideshow painted by Georges Seurat from 1887-8 in a unique post-impressionist style. 

American Repertory Theater of WNY Kicks Off the Second Half of 2016-17 Season

American Repertory Theater of WNY is kicking off the second-half of the 2016-17 with two events that are sure to get a great season rolling again. First up on February 26th is the company's annual Mardi Gras fun-raiser to be held at the 330 Amherst Street performance space from 4 pm to 10 pm.

When German playwright Carl Sternheim set out to write his 1910 work, DIE HOSE, he intended to reflect a focus he knew all too well, the struggle to express and assert oneself within German bourgeois society. The result was the work being initially prevented from opening then later DIE HOSE, and his other works, were completely banned when the Nazis rose to power. All this because of Sternheim's indelicate views on German society.

Local Artists, Scientists Set for Special Events Alongside The Old Globe's PICASSO AT THE LAPIN AGILE

The Old Globe's revival of Steve Martin's clever and crowd-pleasing comedy hit Picasso at the Lapin Agile is playing February 4 - March 12, 2017, on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. In partnership with Balboa Park institutions, local artists, and scientists, the run of the production will feature a number of special events that explore and engage with the play's legendary figures, Pablo Picasso and Albert Einstein, and amplify the intersection of art and science found onstage.
