The Board of ArtsRock has announced that Elliott Forrest, Artistic Director of the organization from its inception in 2008 will become the non-profit's first Executive Director starting July 1, 2016. Forrest will remain as Artistic Director in addition to his new role for ArtsRock who served over 2,000 audience members during their 2015-2016 Winter/Spring Season. Offering residents in and around Rockland County access to professional arts and multi-cultural programs all at reasonable ticket prices.
The Pasadena Playhouse State Theatre of California announced today that Danny Feldman will be the theatre's new Executive/Artistic Director. Mr. Feldman will work closely with Artistic Director Sheldon Epps during a transitional period. It was previously announced that Mr. Epps is retiring and will become The Pasadena Playhouse's Artistic Director Emeritus.
New Light Theater Project and Access Theater will present STRANGE COUNTRY by award-winning playwright Anne Adams. Winner of the New Light New Voices award, it will be directed by Jay Stull (Utility, Rantoul and Die). Previews begin July 21st at Access Theater with opening slated for July 24.
Coming up next for Mint Theater Company (Jonathan Bank, Producing Artistic Director; Jen Soloway, Managing Director) will be the first ever New York revival of A Day by the Sea by N.C. Hunter, directed by Austin Pendleton. This will be the Mint's first production as a resident theater company at Theatre Row. Performances will begin July 22nd and continue through September 24th at their new home at the Beckett Theater at Theatre Row (410 West 42nd Street between 9th and Dyer Avenues). Opening Night is set for August 25th.
This summer The Farm Theater is pleased to present Padraic Lillis' solo show, Hope You Get to Eleven, or What Are We Going to Do About Sally?, directed byScott Illingworth and presented as part of the 8th Annual Planet Connections Theatre Festivity. Over the past decade, The Realm has continually produced work by brave new voices and worked to introduce new initiatives to expand its commitment to providing holistic support to playwrights as they strive to make a life in the arts.
The annual Playwrights for a Cause benefit will be Sunday, July 24th at 7:30 pm at the Atlantic Theatre (Linda Gross Theater), 336 West 20th Street, NYC 10011. The special performance will include six original plays. This year the playwrights for the benefit will include: Israel Horovitz, Dominique Morisseau, Antoinette Nwandu, John Patrick Shanley, Regina Taylor as well as an award-winning writer from the Planet Connections community that will be announced later.
On Tuesday, April 5th, Theatre Communications Group (TCG) presented 'An Evening with Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Stephen Adly Guirgis,' author of the hit Broadway play The Motherf***er with the Hat, which featured a reading of excerpts from several of his plays, a discussion, and signing of his newly published play, Between Riverside and Crazy, for which he received the 2015 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, at the Drama Book Shop in New York, now celebrating its 99th year. Few actors have had a career to rival that of Brian Dennehy, either in terms of success or longevity. With over 150 on-screen credits, the 77-year-old actor has earned a Golden Globe Award and six Emmy nominations. However, it is his decades of experience on the stage that keep his artistic batteries running. 'I work in the theatre a lot, and in the theatre I can call upon the geniuses that may be with us, and may not be; Arthur Miller or Eugene O'Neill or Beckett or Shakespeare or Chekov,' he said. 'However dead they may be, their work is not dead. It is possible to breathe new life and new oxygen and new ideas into those wonderful pieces of work. So I don't depend upon Hollywood, or the studios, or movies, or television, although I work in them and certainly won't say no, but I don't depend on them for intellectual stimulus or satisfaction.'
