New York Theatre Ballet to Perform at Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival, 8/3-7

New York Theatre Ballet will perform two works at Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival in the Doris Duke Theatre from August 3- 7, 2016. Jacob's Pillow, a National Historic Landmark, National Medal of Arts recipient, and home to America's longest-running dance festival, is located in the Berkshires of Western Massachusetts at 358 George Carter Road in Becket.

Kate Simko & London Electronic Orchestra to Perform at Le Poisson Rouge, 7/14

Le Poisson Rouge invites you to the U.S. debut and album release concert for revered producer/composer Kate Simko and her innovative new project London Electronic Orchestra. Featuring a string quintet, harp, and guest vocalist Amunet Shah, the live set will showcase material off Kate Simko & LEO's recently released, self-titled album on The Vinyl Factory.  The event is curated by established New York composer Ricardo Romaneiro, who has collaborated with a myriad of composers and performers, creating thematic concerts that blur the lines between classical and electronic music. Esteemed New York composer Justin Messina will have a bespoke piece performed, and Fiction NYC's Joe Foxton will close the evening with a DJ set. Mauricio Ceppi will perform live visuals.

Segerstrom Center for the Arts begins its 30th Anniversary celebration with another one-night-only star-studded evening of dance: Tour de Force III. The performance will be the first event to represent the array and diversity of the Center's artistic programming, in this case, 30 years of presenting the greatest ballet companies and the world's most celebrated dancers. Tour de Force III will be on Saturday, August 27 in Segerstrom Hall. Produced in collaboration with Ardani Artists, the program will include four Center premieres: Clay by Vladimir Varnava, Zeitgeist by Alastair Marriott, Tristesse by Marcelo Gomes and Le Divertissement du Roi by Maxim Petrov. The international cast includes Diana Vishneva, Joaquin de Luz, Marcelo Gomes, Denis Matvienko, Marcelino Sambe?, Friedemann Vogel and Edward Watson, as well as members of the The Royal Ballet, Mariinsky Ballet and the National Ballet of Canada.

In its tenth anniversary season, THE CROSSING -- the extraordinary chamber choir from Philadelphia, dedicated to new music and conducted by Donald Nally -- comes to New York beginning today, June 16, 2016 to perform the NY premiere of THE FIFTH CENTURY, a large-scale work for the rare combination of choir and saxophone quartet by the iconic avant-garde English composer GAVIN BRYARS. The event, which will also feature the brilliant sax quartet PRISM and will have Bryars in the audience, takes place at7:00 p.m. at Trinity Church, Wall Street (75 Broadway).

Long Beach Opera Sets 2017 Season

Artistic and General Director Andreas Mitisek today announced Long Beach Opera's (LBO) 2017 season. “LBO's  38th season will offer four operas new to Southern California,” said Mitisek. “We'll bring stories that play against the tide of conventions and that are also quintessentially American.  And, we'll work alongside a broad range of collaborators to tell these stories.  As always, to paraphrase Robert Frost, we take the road less travelled, and that makes all the difference.

Although the solstice doesn't officially appear for another week or so, the summer opera clock is already ticking. There's a plethora of performances going on all over New York City, in addition to interesting, entertaining and fascinating productions that are just a hop, skip and jump away. Lawrence Edelson, Artistic and General Director of Opera Saratoga, announced the program for the 2016 Summer Festival, which will run from May 28 through July 17, 2016. The season will feature three new productions at The Spa Little Theater in Spa State Park in Saratoga Springs, New York, along with a diverse slate of recitals and concerts at multiple locations in Saratoga Springs, Glens Falls, and Albany.

National Endowment for the Arts Chairman Jane Chu has approved more than $82 million to fund local arts projects and partnerships in the NEA's second major funding announcement for fiscal year 2016. Included in this announcement is an Art Works award of $14,000 to Ardea Arts for the creation ofBOUNCE The Basketball Opera. The Art Works category supports the creation of work and presentation of both new and existing work, lifelong learning in the arts, and public engagement with the arts through 13 arts disciplines or fields.

The season will see a World Premiere by Buglisi, inspired by the first recorded author/poet, as well as Buglisi masterworksRequiem, Sand, Sospiri, Suite:Solos and Duets, and a special performance by Christine Dakin with pianist Brian Zeger.
