Victory Gardens Theater, the award-winning Chicago theater known for its hard-hitting, politically relevant new plays like Ameriville, Oedipus el Rey, and Mojada, is searching for Chicago gospel choirs to participate in the World Premiere of The Gospel of Lovingkindness by Victory Gardens Ensemble Playwright Marcus Gardley, directed by Artistic Director Chay Yew. Set in Bronzeville, the show examines the toll gun violence can take on individuals, families and a community. The Gospel of Lovingkindness runs February 28 - March 30, 2014 at Victory Gardens Theater, 2433 N. Lincoln Avenue.

By popular demand, Victory Gardens Theater adds three performances of its Co-World Premiere of Appropriate by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, directed by Gary Griffin. The additional performances are tonight and tomorrow, December 12 and 13 at 7:30pm and December 14 at 4pm at Victory Gardens Theatre, 2433 N. Lincoln Avenue.
New Chicago Artists Join the Goodman's Artistic Team for 2013-14 Playwrights Unit

A new crop of local talent joins Goodman Theatre's artistic team for the 2013/2014 Season. The four Chicago-based writers named to the fourth season of the Playwrights Unit-a year-long residency program designed to support and develop new works-include Andrew Hinderaker, Gift Theatre ensemble member; Mickle Maher, cofounder of Theater Oobleck; Anne Garcia-Romero, a resident playwright at Chicago Dramatists; and Laura Schellhardt, who oversees undergraduate playwriting at Northwestern University. A partnership with Chicago Dramatists, the Playwrights Unit meets twice per month with members of the Goodman's artistic team to discuss their plays-in-progress and provide feedback for one another. The program includes readings of the playwrights' works-in-progress at Chicago Dramatists in early 2014, and culminates in summer 2014 with staged readings of their completed works at the Goodman. Playwrights Unit alumni include Greg Allen, Alice Austen, Ike Holter and Christopher Oscar Peña (2012/2013 Season); Philip Dawkins, Nambi E. Kelley, Elaine Romero and Martin Zimmerman (2011/2012 Season); and Seth Bockley, Lisa Dillman, Laura Jacqmin and Rohina Malik (2010/2011 Season).

Celebration Theatre has announced a benefit reading of A Kind of Kind, a world premiere play by Miles Brandman, starring two-time Emmy Award nominee Wendie Malick and Academy Award nominee Robert Forster on Monday, November 25 at 8pm at the Atwater Village Theatre in Los Angeles. Directed by Ovation Award-winner Michael Matthews, proceeds from the reading will go to support Celebration Theatre.

Red Tape Theatre (RTT) announces their 2013/14 Season, which marks their 10th Anniversary Season and first season under the direction of new Artistic Director, Brandon Ray. The season opens October 14th, 2013 with the world premiere of The Life and Death of Madam Barker by Brooke Allen, with music and lyrics by John Fournier and directed by Eric Hoff. Then, in January of 2014 RTT will present the US premiere of hamlet is dead. no gravity by Ewald Palmetshofer, translated by Neil Blackadder and directed by Seth Bockley. Concluding the season in May of 2014, RTT will present another US Premiere, Earthquakes in London, by Mike Bartlett and directed by Brandon Ray. Red Tape Theatre's 10th Season will be presented at its home in St. Peter's Episcopal Church, located at 621 W Belmont Ave.

Mexico City-based company La Piara in collaboration with Chicago writers/directors Seth Bockley and Devon de Mayo (who previously co-wrote and co-directed As Told by the Vivian Girls for Dog & Pony Theatre Company as part of Steppenwolf's Garage Rep) returns to Chicago with its satirical physical comedy Guerra: A Clown Play at Links Hall, 3111 N. Western Ave., for seven performances, today, July 26-Aug. 4. The piece was previously performed in Chicago at Millennium Park in March 2012.
