Bette Middler Leaves HBO's Phil Spector Film

Bette Midler has pulled out of the cast of the untitled film centered around Phil Spector. According to Deadline.com, Midler suffered from a herniated disc and left the film because of 'doctor's orders'. HBO is in the process of recasting her role.

This summer, Broadway actors Darlene Love, Julia Murney, Anthony Rapp and Matt Dengler star in 'Free to Dream: New Songs for the American Journey,' a concert specially adapted for Colonial Williamsburg. Television personality Willard Scott also lends his recorded voice to the program, which showcases the people and places that make up the fabric of America with musical styles from country, rock and pop to swing and the blues. It is a compilation of pieces by Grammy-winning composer Doug Katsaros and two-time Emmy-nominated lyricist William Schermerhorn. A nine-piece band accompanies the singers.

The Hollywood Bowl's production of HAIRSPRAY reunites original Broadway stars Harvey Fierstein and Marissa Jaret Winokur. Both Fierstein and Winokur, playing mother Edna Turnblad and daughter Tracy Turnblad, were awarded Tony Awards for best leading actor in a musical and best leading actress in a musical respectively for their appearances in HAIRSPRAY on Broadway. This is the first time that they have performed these roles together in Los Angeles; this is also Fierstein's Hollywood Bowl debut.

Bette Midler has joined the cast of the untitled film centered around Phil Spector. Variety reports that Midler joins stage and screen veterans Jeffrey Tambor and Al Pacino. The film is written and directed by David Mamet, who counts among his many writing credits the Tony nominated and Pulitzer Award-winning Glengarry Glen Ross, and the Oscar winner The Verdict.

The 50th anniversary of the Philles Records label (1961-2011) has arrived. The long-range campaign promise announced in 2009 by Legacy Recordings and EMI Music Publishing, to dig deep into the rich catalog of Phil Spector's 'Wall Of Sound' on Philles, moves ahead with four newly-compiled albums. The quartet of titles will be available at all physical and digital retail outlets starting February 22nd through Phil Spector Records/ Legacy, a division of SONY MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT.

Yesterday evening, Love took the stage of the Nederlander Theatre to join the cast of MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET in the special encore. Love has been hailed as one of the greatest singers in pop music starting with her first number one recording, 'He's A Rebel,' through her string of label hits with legendary producer Phil Spector, including 'Da Doo Ron Ron,' 'He's Sure The Boy I'm Gonna Marry,' and 'Christmas Baby Please Come Home.' Love was recently nominated for the third time to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
