'SINCERITY FOREVER' Opens At The Brava Theater 1/8

In the month of January into early February, The Brava is celebrating the inauguration of the first African-American U.S. president with presentations discussing censorship, race and the extraordinary contribution of some of our heroes of the past. Brava is committed to producing, presenting and cultivating live art celebrating the intersection of feminism and multiculturalism that ignites social change and builds community. In the upcoming weeks, Brava will be exploring the American Metaphor and how it is changing - what it WAS to be American, what it IS to be American today, and how we look at the legacy as we embark on our future by exploring what it means to be American and face our American stereotypes.

Playwright Julia Brownell's Smart Cookie is a wickedly funny comedy about how a shocking surprise helps a wealthy Manhattan socialite become the woman she never realized she wanted to be. The clear favorite of the 2008 Kendeda Graduate Playwriting Competition judges, this World Premiere play combines laugh-out-loud humor with a provocative story about social image and the powers that can change a person's attitudes.

Now Playing at the Brava: Friends Written by Kobo Abe Directed by Raelle Myrick-Hodges November 5 - November 21 'Love flies out the window when Poverty comes through the door.' A man sits at home perfectly happy. Suddenly there is a knock at his door. A family of eight - bright smiles, well groomed stand at the man's door. 'We are here to help', the family declares and thus begins the strange trek into Kobo Abe's 1964 Japanese take on contemporary society and gentrification.
